I am getting the M-dot tattoo next week and wanted to know if I should get
it with an outline. The tattoo artist suggested that I should but I'm not
sure how it will look. What is the most common way, with or without?

Thanks,
Craig

"M-dot" is the trademark logo of Ironman. If you have an Ironman watch, or have
seen the word Ironman the way the WTC makes it, look at the "m" in the word.
That is the "m-dot".

I've only seen it without. I would be a big supporter of the M-dot
temporary tatoo. We could develop them and give one to each finisher of
any ironman distance event at the finish line. What do you think?

I got mine done last Oct 4th in Kona. not that that legitimizes it or
anything. But all the designs shown to me had an outline. Makes it stand out
IMHO. Mine: black outline, red M and dot. outside of left calf. Enjoy your
tattoo.

the temporary m-dot has been made. they sell them in the Ironman store in
Kona during race week. I have a whole top drawer full of them. Never put
one on though. Don't know where. I think real men probably only get real
m-dot tattoos.

So where do you put it? Your back (shoulder) Arm? Butt Cheek? (I like
that). Ankle?

Are there accepted norms? Opinions?

I got my IMC tattoo on my upper shoulder. It can't be seen when I'm in
ranger uniform or street clothes, just when exercising. The IMC logo
is cool - the m-dot inside a maple leaf.

After Craig Jordan wrote that he was getting an M-dot tattoo, Brian
Beardsley asked:

An M-dot tattoo is what Craig will have to explain to all but a small
cadre of fitness enthusiasts for the rest of his life. ;)

Joking aside, it is the logo of the corporation that promotes the
Ironman triathlons. Though the trademark has been licensed to a
number of manufacturers over the years, I'm not sure who owns it now.
Let's hope they don't license it to, say, Fleet Ironman Enemas or
Preparation H Ironman Hemmoroid Cream, etc.... ;)
