Was wondering if the majority of you ironman participants use or carry water or what
ever hydration product you use during the race. Im considering buying something to
carry gel/water during the run part of the race but wonder if I really need to. Are the
aid stations numerious enough? The longest race I have done is a half and the aid
stations during that race were sufficent enough. i was wonder if this is the case during
the Full's.

Im gonna be doing IMF and am considering getting a fuel/perfecta belt. I was wondering
if others could relate theirs experience with these products during and ironman and if
they felt it nessecary to have to have one.

Thanks in advance

I found mine to be quite helpful. I have a four pack that I used during
IMUSA. It was great to have my own liquid to use during the race along
with water from the aide stations. I carried four flasks with me and had
two in my special needs bag of the run. After I ran out, I used Coke at
the aide stations so it worked out well. At IMUSA, they had extra
bottles you could buy...4 flasks for $10.

I train with a Fuelbelt and it is a great product. I did use it at Lake Placid but
the aid stations were frequent enough that it was not necessary. You will
need to scout the course in advance and determine your needs to make this
decision.

Aid stations in Kona are every mile. I assume that IMF will be the same
(check with them). I found that I don't have to carry anything that the aid
station would have (water, electrolyte, GU, cookies, bananas, chicken soup).

I just used my Fuel Belt (www.fuelbelt.com) at the Bay State Ironman Qualifier.
It was my first long race of the season, and my first opportunity to race with
the Fuel Belt. My wife used her's at the Boston Marathon in April and loved
it.

The nice thing about the FB is that you can bring along your drink of choice.
I'm not a fan of Gatorade mixed from powder, so I had QuicDisc in my FB.

I also used the FB as a number belt and attached a GU pouch to the side.

All in all, it was really comfortable and kept me hydrated.

If you want or need something specific (your own secret concoction),
then carry it. Or if you know the race's choice of Sports drink
doesn't sit well. Otherwise, you'll find plenty at the stations to eat
and drink.

I used the Fuel Belt at Ironman USA, along with
many others (did you guys see the crazy Fuel Belt
fans at the turnaround!!!). It was invaluable in
the sense that I like to pour water over my head
and take a drink inbetween aid stations. I also
found that refilling them on the go wasn't all
that tough either. I love this product and the
support the folks behind the company have given
me. I've had to exchange sizes because I dropped
weight, and they were very helpful to make things
right. Fantastic product that has changed the
way I train- better quality workouts and recovery
through hydration!
