First of all, while the "Steve" of "Steve's Multisport" is a partner of Elite
Bicycles Inc., the businesses are two entirely separately run and organized
corporations.
Secondly, Elite Bicycles Inc. is not going bankrupt. We ARE experiencing a
period of financial difficulty and corporate restructuring, but this in no way
can be considered as bankruptcy.
We are selling-off all of our current stock, but this is only to make way for
2001 frames and bicycles while still allowing enough time for our dealers to
sell them.
As far as our credit card is concerned, even though we do not think a newsgroup
is the place for a discussion of things such as this, all of our current bills
are up to date with Deewall Limited, i.e Lloyd Wallington. The only
outstanding invoices are for those shipments that have not yet been received or
accepted.
As some of you may know, we were experiencing problems with our manufacturing
process, but most of these problems can be attributed to the fact that the
welding was taking place overseas.
In the past few months our production has returned to the United States, and we
are thrilled with the efficiency and overall high quality of the product that
has resulted from this switch.
We are sorry to our dealers and consumers for any undue stress or concern these
past few postings have caused, but we assure you all that there is nothing to
worry about. We are still here to take orders, answer questions, and aid
consumers, while simultaneously working on improving our line of frames and
bikes for next year.
Mainly, we want to assure the public that Elite Bicycles Inc. is continuing to
produce for the upcoming 2001 season.
Furthermore, we will not participate in any more public discussions of this
matter, as we feel it is a private issue between Elite Bicycles Inc., and
Deewal Limited.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
Sincerely,
The Staff at Elite Bicycles
During my infrequent lurking here, I see plenty of testimonials for
various bikes (Cervelo, QR, Softride, Litespeed, etc), but see little
information for the smaller manufacturers. All of these manufacturers
started out small and grew in part because of customer loyalty and
word-of-mouth.
Yes, I'm an Elite-sponsored age grouper. But I don't get THAT great a
deal for you to entirely disregard my comments. I also have enough
multisport/cycling experience so that you might consider what I say.
I've ridden nearly all of the contenders, and I'm happy to ride an
Elite.
In brief, Elite makes great bikes, and they'll spend the time with you
to get you set up perfectly. The whole process may not be perfectly
smooth, but in the end you'll be thrilled.
My T-6 is a wonderful race machine. It's light, it's stiff, and it made
me a better racer.
My new Special Edition St Croix bike, on the other hand, is the greatest
bike I've ever had. It's set up with a 76-degree seat-tube angle, 700c
wheels, drop bars, it's beautiful, and it's crazy light (and could be
lighter with different components). In my mind, it's the perfect
training machine. Sit back and ride with your group with STI, or slide
forward and ride aero for tri-geeking.
Any of you out there with an interest in these bicycles, feel free to
email me. I'll shoot you straight, and tell you my frame of reference
(no pun intended) vis a vis other bikes, manufacturers, and shops.
Cheers,
Vaughn

Below is also a copy of the email from the AEI freight office in Cairns
verifying what Tracy had asked Steve in a polite manner.
We were trying to do what we had agreed to do and that was ship the last of
the frames were are owed money on. No one at Deewal Pty Ltd. has ever made
"ridiculous" claims about Elite Bicycles.
Interesting you denigrate me yet make such great claims about a bike which
is an exact copy of our Curloo Tri-Series bikes, In fact David Greenfield's
instruction on building the first of the St Croix bikes was, "the same specs
as you Curloo bikes". I believe I could still dig up the email.
