I was so sad to see Tamarine Tanasugarn lose. She was up a set & a
break on Spirlea and I thought she had it in the bag. Not sure what
happened; I only saw it on usopen.org. A lot of these low ranked
players from foreign coutnries have a lot at stake and every round
means an extra couple of thousand $ to pay for room & board, food,
travel, etc. for yourself and maybe a coach. I'm esp. fond of Tamarine
because she's so sweet. When I spoke to her after her first round win I
thought she was going to give me a hug. The chances of her getting much
beyond her #66 ranking are pretty slim but I'm rooting for her.

Actually I think Tanasugarn's family has quite a bit of money, and she was born
in the United States. They live in Thailand now because they chose to and can
afford to, not because they had to or because they ran out of money or anything.

Though I was hoping Tanasugarn would win too.

I'm far more upset that Amanda Coetzer lost, as Amanda's one of my favorite
players, along with Hingis, Dokic, and Capriati.
