Firefox's greasemonkey extension with its killfile script is working
fine for me at the moment. It just takes two mouse clicks to install
the two pieces of software.

Here's the greasemonkey extension:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/downloads/file/30326/greasem...

Click on it and it will install in your Firefox.

Then the Google Groups KillFile:
http://www.penney.org/googleGroups.user.js

Click on it and it will install instantly.

It's interesting that all these people with killfiles are the ones who
respond, via third party replies, more than anyone to the trolls in
the killfiles.

You forgot the rst moderator...

PS: You do realize that with that ignore list, you're essentially
missing about 90% of the posts in rst right? :)

Not really. I have read hundreds of posts made by most of the posters
that are currently on my killfile, and at this point I am absolutely
sure of their troll status. Believe me, I am not missing one single
nugget of tennis wisdom by blacklisting these posters.

You, Sakari, Vari, Pedro, Joe, Javier, Topspin, Blanders, Voice of
Reason, Scott, Andrew Reys, Sau Paulo Swallow, Fearsome
Forehand,....way too many to mention. And it makes for very clean

The only useful kill file is one that can kill the replies too,
otherwise you keep stumbling over replies to someone who is in your
kill file.

Then again, some people use a kill file as an imaginary friend, just so
he can say "Author X is in my kill file". And they frequently lose
track of their imaginary kill file friend, replying directly to the
author who was allegedly kill filed.

The most effective USENET filter is "Ignore SubThread". That allows you
to ignore a thread branch either from the top or any place in the
thread.

Me neither. They would go crazy in a few days. With the killfile off,
it's like dipping your mind in a cesspool; it's bound to affect you
subconsciously if you keep reading them day after day.

That's fine. Like I said, 90% of the time they don't come in my view.
I use a killfile, but I am no control freak. It's ok to have a sneak
peek of what the trolls are upto from time to time.

I hope the guy who wrote the Google Groups killfile script will take
this into account for his next version. If he doesn't, well, maybe I
will give it a go myself, if I have some spare time.
