The first two columns show the players' rankings at the end of 1994 and
1993 (respectively). The last two columns show the year-end final points
averages.
I've also included the number of WTA-sanctioned tournament titles
(NOT including exhibition or challenger titles) each player won during the
1994 tennis season.
NOTE: Only those players listed in the WTA top **100** at the end of
1993 and/or 1994 are included in this list.

Description of the Virginia Slims WTA ranking system (from the
rec.sport.tennis FAQ):
Points are awarded based on how far a player advances in a tournament.
Bonus points, based on the rankings of opponents beaten in each round,
are added. The only exception is the Virginia Slims Championship, where
a player gets the higher between (1) ranking points she gets based on
the method described above and (2) her ranking point average going into
the VS Championship (described below) plus any bonus points she receives
there.
The total points awarded for each tournament played within a 52-week
period are added & then divided by the number of tournaments played in
that same period (minimum divisor of 12 tournaments: if one plays 11 or
fewer, her points will still be divided by 12). Unlike the men's system,
all the women's results count with the exception of Federation Cup,
Olympics, & exhibitions. A player must have played in at least three
tournaments in the last calendar year to obtain a ranking.
The current ranking system awards points based on the tier of a
tournament as well as the type of draw (the number of players in the
main draw in a tournament).

Information about the FAQ:
The rec.sport.tennis FAQ is posted to r.s.tennis every month by
Chris Smith, usually around the middle of the month. He sets the
expiration date for those articles to a month. So they might
still be on your news server, although some news servers ignore
those expiration dates. They are also cross posted to rec.answers
and news.answers. You can also get it via ftp (see below). The
FAQ consists of 6 articles answering frequently asked questions
about pro tournaments, rankings, players, equipment, media
information, and miscellaneous tennis topics.
