Surely this day is better than yesterday...

Zvonareva d. Azarenka 7-6 (4) 6-4.

Good stuff. First set particularly, Azarenka was pressing all the time and running Vera ragged.
Somehow Zvonareva clawed her way back to the match and took the 1st set. In the second, Azarenka
crumbled a bit and tiebreak was not needed. New & improved Vera didn't even cry, though it seemed
Azarenka might after the matchpoint. Zvonareva's quick, explosive backhand is a beauty. Funny
how bigger & stronger Azarenka was dominating, yet Zvonareva hit more winners.

Clijsters d. Jankovic 6-2 6-3.

Jankovic looked sick even in pre-match interview, why is she even playing this. Clijsters
looked rusty, she was double faulting like Kournikova. Fortunately for her, Jankovic was all
over the place in the start, I bet even I would have won games off her in the first set.
In the second set she actually looked better and the set was borderline
competive, even if the result wasn't really in doubt. At least Kim can play (and was clear
audience favourite) but she needs to improve.

Stosur d. Wozniacki 6-4 6-3.

Ouch, Stosur made Caro look like a junior out there. Wozniacki just couldn't handle the kick
serve at all. Stosur also exposed Wozniacki's defensive weaknesses, she moved her around
with her topspin, and Wozniacki does not have effective defensive shots which could break
such hold. Also, Wozniacki's backhand was kinda off. Funny to think how Stosur lost to
Kimiko Date just couple of weeks ago.

Wozniacki's next match against Schiavone is going to be huge now, because if she loses, Zvonareva
has a shot at #1.

Well, it was slightly better than yesterday.

The participants and the level of play point to the sorry state of
women’s tennis. Wozniacki is a sweet young lady but to reach #1 the
rest of the group had to be very poor.
Nothing personal against Zvonareva but she is just ugly. If she takes
#1, you can stuff women’s tennis.
I hardly ever watch the matches. They are not worth it.
