I've met Wilander several times and he was an asshole.

I do not believe you. You never met Wilander. This is what I found in
wiki and it contradicts what you are telling us:
Private life
Wilander now spends much of his time living in Hailey, Idaho, United
States (part of the Sun Valley ski resort) with his wife Sonja (née
Mulholland), a South African-born model. He competes from time-to-time
on the senior tour. Since retiring as a player, he has served as
captain of the Swedish Davis Cup team and as coach of the Russian
player Marat Safin. He also occasionally spends time commentating
tennis matches on Eurosport. He is a supporter of Leeds United A.F.C
Wilander has four children named Emma, Karl, Erik, and Oscar. His son
Erik suffers from a comparatively mild form of epidermolysis bullosa,
and Wilander and his wife have worked to raise funds for research into
cures for the disease.
Where is the contradiction?
Sounds like perfectly normal sanitized biographical shorthanded
glossed semi--reality... telling us the facticity and nothing much
about the day to day realities of what his life actually is... can't
get that in a bio...
P
no idea about his private life, but on the first series of Game, Set &
Matts on Eurosport in 2007 or 2008 FO, he was very very PRO Fed, he
even tried to ignore that Nadal was playing, it was all pretty much
about Fed about how good he was. 2009 and this year, he's changed a
bit to admiring Nadal more, maybe he's just come to the realisation
any casual tennis observer would come to.
no, as many of the clowns always try/tried their hardest, expending
every last bit of energy to beat Nadal, whereas they just lobbed balls
out the court, abandoned all common playing sense, tried new tricks
they'd never done before, retired randomly, helped/gifted him sets,
matches etc etc when up against Fed.

Yes, would be interesting to see a Wikipedia page saying "He's never
at home, doesn't give a damn about his wife or kids (two of whom are
Nadal hardly was at his best before 2008.
And it so happened to be that's exactly when clown era ended? Even so,
why didn't Rafa benefit more from the weak era before he was at his
best? Why has Fed continued to win slams after the weak era ended?
Only dropping out of the top 2 for what, 2 weeks until now?
Either Rafa also benefited from a weak era, just like Federer, or
there was no weak era to begin with. Period.
You can draw your own conclusions but the fact is that Nadal was not
complete before 2008...could even be before 2011...
What did you expect? Nadal surprised everyone. Dave said that he “was
cooked stick a fork in him”. I did not expect him to win any slams on
HC and even had my doubts about GC. Nadal surprised everyone including
Mats. It is called jumping on the bandwagon.
He turned into something a lot more than the King of Clay and that was
not too shabby to begin with…
shit happens.
I think he did benefit. The clay field post 2004 was the worst since 1916.
> Why has Fed continued to win slams after the weak era ended?
Since Rafa came of age, 2/4 (or possibly 3/4) of the slams he won have
KNEE written on them.

Didn't surprise me. I tipped him to win Wimbledon back in 2003 when he
beat Ancic as a 17 yr old.
As long as injuries stay away he's having the career I thought he would.
HOW MANY MORE TIMES!!! The clowns would go all out to beat Nadal,
probably to please their hero/master Mr.Fed. Nadal was very good
before 2008, but it's very tough to get right to the top with that
kind of nutty opposition, also it's not like he didn't get to number 2.
when was federer at his best
He's taken offense (which is fine, he's allowed to) to the talk about
Fed as "the greatest of all time" for the last 4 years, that I am
aware of... and that's fine; it's his opinion... but he's certainly
warmed up to Nadal over the last 3 seasons... again that's cool... I
can understand him wanting to put the brakes on all the Fed
Glorifications that ran roughsod over tennis commentary and writing
for many years... Jesus, even LAVER in 2005! said he was "honoured" to
be compared to Federer???? What the F was that about??? Laver is a god
of tennis... incomparable really...
P
I agree with you!

You thought he'd have 9 slams at 24? Links?
I definitely thought he'd win Wimbledon, & dominate FO, & also win
career slam.
