....how about a friendly wager.

You are all convinced that Nadal wins in straights....put some action where
your mouth is. If Fed wins on Sunday, you - along with all your socks -
leave the group for good. If anyone takes up the offer, I will in turn,
leave forthwith never to return should Fed lose. Man enough to step up?
Reply 'I'm in' if you have the courage of your conviction.

If Fed wins, I will never call Lendl as greatest in modern era again.
That's a promise I won't break. If Fed loses he is still behind Lendl

Good idea, but:

1. RSTs resident trolls won't understand that Federer fans live by a
code of honor, and lacking trust, won't agree to your offer.

2. Any who DO take up the offer have no such code of honor, and thus
cannot be expected to meet their obligations should events go against
them.

This is a stupid offer. RST is for discussing the players. If Federer
were to win tomorrow, I would continue to question his character. I
have no issue with his records. He has 16 slams and that is more than
what anyone else has. You have to give him credit for that but it does
not mean that you have to excuse him his pitiful conduct when he loses
and the way he talks about his opponents.
It is not either this or that and having achieved in one-area gives
him no pass pm other areas. Even if he were to win tomorrow, his h2h
with Nadal would be still pitiful. There is no one answer...
You should stick around even if Federer loses, even more so :)

Maybe a better idea than you leaving RST if you lose the wager is for
you to relinquish your anonymity. Then when you slander Roger, his
lawyers will be knocking on your front door the following morning.
When you try to escape out the back door, the JDL will be waiting for

act vulgar in a way that you wouldn't consider in public.

I would miss the group...but seeing as their is so much bullshit being

I think the issue is I'm not that emotionally invested in the result, as
you seem to be. I've already said on 1 level it would be great if Fed
were to win, as it would redress many shortcomings. I always give
credit where it's due. I know you want me to be impressed & give full

credit that deserves.

Never said it's the same. Even AO/Wim grass were different, just as AO/USO
HC is different. Green/Red clay is perhaps most different when it comes the
same surfaces but it's still the same surface.
But the point was it's still the same surface, and also about US open being
out of Borg's reach whether it is on grass, clay or hard...in a way that's
worse than not being able to win a slam on your most unfavorable surface.
I think Sampras would have won 3 FO titles if they switched to slow grass
for three years during his time.

Even if Federer had failed to win FO, I'd still think of Borg's USO choke as
a lot bigger than Federer's at FO.
So, with other stuff, it's easily, Federer > Borg

That's so wrong and dumb because tennis is played in knockout competitions.

It's not a league sport like FA Premier League where theams play 38 matches
against each other.
Even in those matches beating your rival means a lot because it often
determines who'll top the league, meaning there are "bigger" and "lesser"
games.
Not all are the same.

In knockout competition like cups, or tennis tournaments, it goes far beyond
that.
the latter the round is, the more important it is...and the final is like a
singularity.
you other succeed there or don't.

it's about racking up silverware.

Saying that a guy who never won Tour de France is a greater cyclist over the
one who won it 7 times...

it's just...bizarre... and that's why people can't arse themselves to take
you seriously in tennis discussions.

Okay I will make a case...

AO ..... Wilander > Sampras
FO.... Wilander > Sampras
Wim.... Sampras > Wilander
USO... Sampras > Wilander
YEC .... Sampras > Wilander
Davis Cup ..... Wilander > Sampras

Tie breaker... who had the best year? Wilander 1988.... End of Story.
Wilander flaked out much earlier than he should but in that short
period he was plain better than Sampras.

I admit I am not fully into Wilander's DC record, but Sampras won DC as
well. So Wilander could have only won few titles more.
DC is a team event, a guy like Federer is partially unlucky to come from a
weak country and not being able to win it.
Even as a tiebreaker (which I feel DC is) I feel it's more about whether you
just have it, or don't, number of DC titles just aint that important.

The other points are all correct, but your failure lies in the fact you
assign equal values to all slams and slams to yec...that's just wrong on so
many levels and has been discussed many times here.

djokovic recently said something like, reaching #1 is my professional
fullfilment and a goal, winning wimbledon would be a dream come true.
