What did he have to say? (I'm too cheap to buy the transcript.)

It was a 20 minute interview taped monday. The interview began with Rose
asking about Pete's parents and what they meant to him. Pete said that after
the semi-finals he called them up and insisted they come see him play. He had
promised himself that if he got to a slam final this year he would make sure
his parents were there. He explained that they don't like to watch him play
becaue they get nervous and that they are private people. Pete's dad agreed to
come but only if they didn't have to sit in the box because he didn't want the
cameras on him.

They then talked about the match itself. Nothing really new was said. Pete
felt like if he lost the 2nd set the match was over. Once he won the
tiebreaker he felt like the air went out of Pat and he was in control.

Rose then asked Pete if he was the greatest tennis player in history.
Pete said that the differences in Tennis has changed to much to ever get an
accurate comparison. He feels content that his name be mentioned as a
possiblity along with Laver and Mcenroe. He said that what he is most proud of
is that he has consistenly won, winning at least a slam a year the past 7 years
and never falling in the rankings. He feels like when he gets on the court he
is the best player in the world and that he can be intimidating to the other
players.

They also talked about the French Open and Rose said that most people say
he can't win it now. Pete said he still believes he can win it or he wouldn't
play it. He said the court is fast enough and his game is good enough to win
it, he just has to have a few things go his way like not playing Phillipousos
in the first round.

They then showed the Nike Emmerson commercial and Sampras laughed.

A one-on-one-format talk show aired every week night on the Public
Broadcasting network (subscriber-funded, the closest thing in the US to
the BBC), hosted by a reasonably insightful, aritculate journalist named
Charlie Rose who asks reasonably interesting and intelligent questions ;
IMO it is the one of the least brain-dead interview shows on North
American television...

I personally think that Charlie Rose is, hands down, the best
interviewer on American TV. He asks smart, solid questions and
doesn't try to discredit his guests or the viewer by trying to create
unfounded controversy.
