If one of your picks is in danger of pulling out of the event you can
select an alternate pick, but the alternate is only valid if the
original pick withdraws before their first match.
A perfect score of 20 will be rewarded with a tennis program courtesy

I wasn't aware Henin had any problems where she may pull out Dave. if
she's injured at all then i take her off as a contender for the title. i
think Sharapova and Ivanovic could make a deep run. but Kim seems to be
the over whelming fave to take the title.

happens next. Fed v. Murray isn't less likely in 2011 because of 2010.

from a pure theoretical standpoint yes. But this isn't coin tossing.
It's real life. They don't have the same draw, same age, etc. We're
not tossing the same, fair coin again. There are human elements that
aren't so easily measured. And this tournament is played on hard
courts, which is not as predictable as grass/clay.
It doesn't mean one should pick something different just for the sake
of doing so. I just wouldn't expect the same two finalists,
especially at the Oz. One repeat finalist is tough enough.

I don't dispute any of that. All I'm saying is that the likelihood of Fed v.
Murray in this year's final is not affected by the personnel in last year's
final.

As CloudsRests points out, we actually don't know that for certain.
Some psychological factors cannot be measured. For example, suppose a
player is so thrilled by making winning a slam -- or by making the
final, if that's all he does -- that he unconsciously eases up at that
tournament later? Or, making the final might increase a player's
confidence and make it easier for him to make subsequent finals. The
fact that we cannot predict such effects does not mean that they can't
possibly exist.

That's all I'm debunking.
What you say about complex psychological effects is probably true, at least for
journeymen. For example, I never believed that Marcos Baghdatis could repeat
his AO run to the final the next year. The excitement (how far could he go?)
and the media coverage in Melbourne and the following he gathered along the way
could only happen once. But Murray and the other top players have better
results and higher expectations, so I doubt that it makes any difference what
they did last year.

Very true, my pick wasn't based on last year, by the way.
By the fact that by the time I posted, who could have claimed that
Nadal had recovered for good of his fever.
Neither had I the idea of how easy his first round will turn out,
because of injuried opponent.
Having a "free" match in slam is hardly a handicap.
Given the way Murray was able to master his gameplan on court last
year, and the possibility that Rafa might have some hard work (for not
having fully recovered) getting to the semi, well I picked Murray!
Same goes for Fed, I had not checked that he might have to play Gilles
so early. Even if I had, I would have picked Fed to win that match,
but the question still would have been how many gaz still in Roger's
tank after a battle versus Simon (for they went to a decider the 3
times they've met).

It's not that bad, he can rest for a full day and have a short
practice session before his next match.
