When you do, please state clearly that it is your personal opinion alone on
which you are acting, and not the consensus of the newsgroup participants,
which you have not obtained.

I, for one, welcome posts of that nature. No way am I going to sift through
10 zillion posts in ba.market.misc to find a single offer of table tennis
equipment.

I think the policy should be the same one it is in the misc.forsale groups:
postings by individuals who are not in the business of selling equipment are
welcome; postings by dealers are welcome *if* (and only if) they offer prices
substantially below those that are nationally advertised by major dealers.
The posting you are objecting to is certainly covered by the latter clause,
and I suspect by the former as well.

I think the chance that this newsgroup will be overrun with such postings is
negligible. Table tennis just isn't that big a business.

My apologies on this. It is good to have rec.sport.table-tennis
and I was just afraid that sellers might think that they could
advertise here frequently.Sorry - I agree with the consensus.

Sorry if I was too hard on you. I just thought you were jumping the gun a
bit.

Anyway, my opinion doesn't constitute a consensus either -- does anyone else
have anything to say about this? Alex?

Hi Everyone -

The initial charter for rec.sport.t-t was very broad and non-specific
about the use of this newsgroup. The basis for the group creation was simple. As a forum for open discussion about all subjects in table tennis. The following are the original news.groups posts:
