I find I play better when I drink beer and play ping pong, after about 5
beers I tend to see several balls coming at me at the same time, and I
usually can get one of them back. On the downside, makes it harder to
keep track of the score, so I usually lose more games because the guys I
play with tend to cheat on the score more after I've had a few beers.
Back to the original topic, we never spill beer on the table. - Don

Er, keep beer away from the table?

Anyone know of something I could put on my p-p table like say Thompson's
water seal or whatever that would protect the top of a wood ping-pong
table from beer, but would not hurt the true bounce of the ball.
Any suggestions or experiences welcome.

If you drink beer while playing, I shouldn't think that the true bounce of the
ball is something that would concern you... :-)

Just one question .... what is a can of beer doing close to a table?

Maybe put up a sign that says how much the table cost.

There is a game called beer pong that is played in all the college
dorms. I suggest you buy a cheap table and wipe the beer off with a
damp towel.

Yeah. Good question! I'd also like to know how to keep those damn joints
from burning into the table. I hate that!

Beer is an integral part of a table tennis table. Without beer there
would be no table tennis. And if you have played for a long time, sucking
beer out of the table is the only reason to keep playing. So I recommend
no changes be made to the table top. Besides if you coat the top of the
table, the table may become slippery and any beer placed on top may slide
off. The worst sin of all is spilling a beer.

Beer, obviously has to be drunk when playing pong. The most important part
is to find the right beer. You don't want the strong stuff at first
because after 10 minutes you won't be able to see the ball. You need to
start out with something light. The next step is to piss off your opponent
by throwing up on his side of the table. Most likely, he will start
feeling sick and go into the bathroom. The final and last step is to pour
the remaining beer all over his paddle. I hope that I have helped the
millions of people out there with their beer problem. Happy drinking!!!!!

Really? 2700+ huh? I didn't know there were so many of us 2700
players. I use to be well over 3000 before that knee injury :)

Let's clean-up the use of this type of discussion. Many people
are trying to bring table tennis to the forefront of the
sporting community in the USA. This type of postings can be
interpreted differently than the intended posting. And to see
a junior or previous junior posting a reply to this is most
concerning. All in all, this posting is to be interpreted as a
joking stab at table tennis. Let's keep this type of humor in
amoung the players and not present this type of humor to the
world. This newsgroup is reviewed by many different viewers
from around the world, USA and even the press has been
reviewing the data. I would hate to see a new reporter quoting
this type of posting in a article concerning our sport. Don't
take this added posting as a slap on the hand but as
constructive correctness for the sport. I'm not trying to be
the table tennis cop, but I am trying with many other people to
raise the awareness of our sport through the use of this
vehicle in making the sport of table tennis an outstanding
participation sport.

I don't think that this original post was intended as a joke at all.
I am a fairly serious TT player and I DO think that this type of
question is legitimate. SO who cares if they were talking about beer
what if the liquid was Kool-aid???? I think that the person was just
inquiring about what to do if liquid spills on the table. Can't you
just give them an answer?

Then don't make it sound like one ....

I've been in, on, and around the "internet" for a long time and as much
as we'd like to keep what we feel as "irrelevant and adolescent"
remarks out of "our serious" discussions, the fact remains that the net
is still a place where anyone can say just about anything. Feel
fourtunate that this person at least was on topic.

It is my opinion that YOU can do more for the sport by responding
intelligently to posts and keeping to the topic. AND if you feel
that you must respond to something that you don't feel is "correct"
then send that person e-mail instead of starting a potential flame
war.

I will now take my own advice and make this my last post of this nature
to this group.

I still feel that the original post was a good question!!!!!
