> authority to settle any umpiring-related questions or disputes. We need integration between the table tennis community in an area with
the intercollegiate players. Currently college players seldom participate
in local tourneys or practices offered by local clubs.
It will be wonderful if there be more interaction between all table
tennis players. TT may grow a little faster... otherwise even some
players "they call themself PingPong Lovers" and refuse a name the sport
with respect.

Hi Lim, as an ex-team-captain in the L-NITT, I agree with your point
that there's not much interaction between the college table tennis
teams and the general table tennis community. What can we be doing
to promote more interactions? Perhaps more table tennis tournaments
where there are events for college teams? More publicity for table
tennis at college campuses? What's your take on it? Anyone else have
ideas?

One major problem with LNITT is that there's no effective centralized
organization. Director changes every year, some schools have little
respect for the league (I remember there were schools never paid the
league fee). Being started in the east coast helped quite a bit in the
beginning as a lot of schools are close to each others and team captains
can easily call up/email one another and say "we're coming this weekend".
However, as LNITT expands it will need a static centralized governing
body to oversee tournament schedule, site arrangement, promotion,
finance...etc. I believe a non-profit organization should be established
(perhaps as a part of USATT college sport division, I dunno) to
undertake the task.

Jasper, it's a pretty good idea to have a centralized governing body
in LNITT for administrative purposes. I don't know who else from
LNITT reads this group, but perhaps we can communicate this idea to
the LNITT mailing list. I am sure we can get some help from USATT
if we do want to keep this effort going. Can anyone from USATT
comment on this?

I know Rob from Dartmouth and some other L-NITT people hang out here
as well. Perhaps more feedbacks from both L-NITT schools and USATT?

Lim:

I am one of those who call themselves PingPong lovers, which does not disrespect the
sport in any way at all. Chinese have been crazy about the sport for many many
years. They call the sport PingPong. They name the top organization of the sport as
PingPong Association. You are saying that Chinese do not pay respect to this sport?
Open your eyes to the world of PingPong, rather than so narrow-minded as most
Americans think about this sport.

The name DOES NOT change the way people think about the sport. Don't you agree?

G. Liu
