FITZ-GERALD CONSOLIDATES WORLD No1 SQUASH SLOT
Australia's World Open squash champion Sarah Fitz-Gerald has consolidated her
position as the world's No1 woman player in the 1st January 1997 rankings
announced today (Monday 30th December 1996) by the Women's International
Squash Players' Association (WISPA). England's Cassie Jackman remains at
three, but has narrowed the gap behind Australia's former No1 Michelle Martin
whom she has now beaten four times in the past three months.
Sue Wright is the only player to move up within the top ten - replacing
England compatriot Suzanne Horner at No4. Significant top twenty movers are
England's Linda Charman, from 15 to 11; and the New Zealand trio Philippa
Beams, up one to No 16; Leilani Marsh, up two to No 17; and, making her debut
in the top 20, former world junior champion Jade Wilson up to No 18 from 23.
