The service action is unimportant, as long as you keep
one foot in contact with the floor within the service box
and comply with the other service rules.

Can't say I'd recommend this type of serve though -
I'm a lobber myself ...

Yes, you can serve like in tennis.
The rule requiring you to serve below the waistline applies to
badminton.

It is legal, and some world-class players ocasionally use it. Jahangir Khan
used to throw one in from time to time to shake up an opponent. He would use
a hard overarm serve aimed at his opponent's shoulder. This makes it
difficult to volley, and there is always a possibility of getting a back wall
dead nick.

I play against an opponent who can fast overarm serve and often gets the
sidewall nick at the back of the service box.
