What is the maximum velocity of a squash ball?

I'm still musing about squash as developing concentration. One certainly
needs to be alert to anticipate a squash ball traveling at maximum velocity.
What would that velocity be and where would one find such information?
Thanks.

Less than the speed of light.

I'm sure that's true most of the time. But sometimes I don't even see the
ball, which may lead one to think that some players can cause its velocity
to increase to the point of invisibility.

I would like the speed expressed in m.p.h. if possible. Apparently they
measure the velocity of a baseball ( a game quite popular here in America I
understand) with a radar gun. I am not sure why, but I haven't learned much
about baseball.

It all depends on how hard you hit it mate.
If it leaves a vapour trail I imagine it has just about reached the
max.
If you can't see it after hitting it and there's no trail then it has
most probably just vapourized on your racket.
Try Google.

Christopher,

Calculate the de Broglie wavelengths of a squashball (mass=24g)
travelling at 20ms -1 and you should have the answer.
Anyway Dr.P.J.Camp seems to know what he's talking about I certainly
don't.
I dont reckon the velocity can be worked out unless you know the
amount of power exerted on the ball and everybody varies, you would
need a constant force hitting machine.

Thanks much! I didn't find much on Google myself. That link is not for the
squeamish - which I sadly am!
My regular partner hits the ball very hard. He just sprained his wrist so he
is out of it for now. Many times the ball just vaporizes when he hits it.
Other times the ball drills a hole in the front wall. But happily we can
usually retrieve it later embedded in a wall the other side of the street
from the squash club. I may be exaggerating a tiny bit.

There was a radar gun at the Tournament of Champions in New York,
Feb-05 used in a contest for kids. Pro John White started it off and
hits a forehand at 111 mph. Then this little girl, couldn't have been
older than 12, steps up and hits one. Her speed: 111 mph. Somebody
said the radar gun must have been busted.

I'd say that the gun was set to 111.. !! Or the girl will
have a wonderful future in pro Squash..

According to the info. from the Squash Cannon, the machine
will fire balls up to 100 mph, which is about right.. I am
certain that there are those who can hit faster, but I'd say
that 100 is reasonable.

Also, I think the kind of ball and environment are factors..
