With the quadrennial carnival coming to an end, we can get back to the
real world of football again. I like the World Cup, most people do, it
brings out new fans and makes the game popular in the less common
markets, but in my opinion, as club football spends more and more money
and becomes bigger, I can see the World Cup fading away?

I can see a team like Real Madrid or Bayern, just saying no to FIFA and
not releasing players, the amount of money spent on transfers and
salaries will get bigger and they wont want to risk players anymore. Not
to mention the compensation to the clubs is minimal. I can see more
teams doing summer tours of Asia and North America.

Anyhow, some interesting transfers happening or in negotiation or just
outright made up rumours. Toni Kroos and Hamish Rodriguez are probably
the two hottest properties to come out of the WC. The Mexican keeper,
Ochoa may land himself in a good place as well?

I am just going to include WC players for now

Diego from Atletico to Fernerbache.
Apparently in negotiations?
OK he was not a World Cup player, but this is the type of guy I would
have liked to see playing for Brazil, not these Gustavo, Fernandino,
Paulinho types.

Alexis Sanchez Barca to Arsenal
in talks
I like Sanchez, I think he is Chile's best player, I think he would do
quite well in the EPL.

Divock Okoth Origi Lille to Liverpool
in negotiations
Was he a World Cup star? I know he scored and played, but like the
Belgian team, he left no impression on me.

Mario Mandzukic Bayern to Atletico
in negotiations
I think Lewandowski is a better player then Mandzukic, but I dont think
it was a vital transfer? I could be wrong, but did they really need to
get Lewandowski, or are Bayern just trying to weaken the opposition?
Why doesnt Mandzukic join Dortmund? I think he would fit into Kloppo's
team?

Luis Suarez Liverpool to Barca
in negotiations
I think this is really going to happen?

Matt Besler Kansas City to Freiburg
in talks
Besler is not one of those German American players as far as I know?

Taylor Navas Levante to Bayern
in talks
I dont understand this one? I thought Navas was possibly the second
best keeper in this tournament, why would he want to join a team and be
a back up to Neuer? Or does bayern want to rotate keepers like in ice
Hockey? Maybe that will become the new thing in football?

Ashley Cole Chelsea to Roma
confirmed
Has the Serie A become the place where old EPl'ers go to die?

Matthias Ginter Freiburg to Dortmund
in negotiations
Ginter is actually part of the WC squad, even if he has not played yet
(has he?). JLow should have put him on instead of Per last game

more to come

Because Arsenal needs more smallish, tricky, technical attacking
midfielders/wide forwards ?

I mean Cazorla, Walcott, Oxlade, zil, Podolski, and Gnabry are clearly
not enough....

Apparently they have also signed Debuchy. That actually makes sense -
replace Sagna with the player in his position that is ahead of him in
the France pecking order (and three years younger)

I think Wenger wants to play him as a pure striker.

Good signing, but not even Pele, Maradona, Messi or a custom made player
would complement Giroud...

The team needs a keeper signing, and quite urgently!!!

They are linked with a lot of players, but I think that Loic Remy is who they have
in mind as their primary striker signing this season. Sanchez may play more centrally
at Arsenal than he had for Barca, but will still play off Giroud or Remy (or whoever is signed).

Here is the list of people who have competed at both the winter and
summer olympics:

They aren't done. I'm sure they'd love to have Pogba but he's going to end up with one of the
free-spending teams. But they're very likely to sign a big enough name of a holding midfielder
any day now.

There's one Brazilian in this list, but from the top of my mind I can think

The most interesting combination must be the Belgian guy doing
ice-hockey and fencing (the dude was obviously good at doing things with
a pole-like thing in his hand).

I'm surprised that there weren't more (actually, any) cross-country
skiing/marathon combinations, or cross-country skiing/road biking. Maria
Canins (http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Canins) was a fairly
accomplished cross-country skier before winning a couple of Tour de
Frances. She participated in the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics, but
never in the winter ones.

Now that this carnival is over, we can get back to real football stuff.
Like the transfer market rumours and speculation.

Gladbach finally get rid of luuk de Jong, he is going back to Holland to
PSV. He was perhaps the worst of my Bundesliga rejects in the EPl
fantasy pool last year, which is saying a lot abut his crapiness.
Actually I am not sure if he was a Newcastle player or just a loan?

Hoefully my Bundesliga Rejects will get better with Sbastien Pocognoli,
signed by West Brom ( they are still in the 1st div ?) from Hannover.

Hannover also lose the pocket Didier. Ya Konan goes to Saudi Arabia, I
always thought he was a good player, too bad he goes to his retirement
home so early.

Vidal goes to man United. Ok, this is only kicker reporting on a rumour
in Marca, the number tossed around is 40 mil. Vidal is a prime example
of how the media can elevate an average player to the status of
superstar without him actually having to be very good

Robinho is in talks to go from AC Milan to Orlando City. Where the hell
does Orlando City play? I have never heard of that team? It is not the
Orlando Pirates is it?

Kieran Richardson jumps ship at Fulham to join Aston Villa, I am not so
surprised that everyone is leaving Fulham, I am surprised that Fleix is
still the manager?

Roy Beerens joins Hertha to become the next Lasogga. Yes I realize none
of you know who Roy Beerens or Lasogga are. I think Lasogga is now
officially an HSV player? If Lasogga had played in the WC, Germany
would have won it!

that is it for now

Nothing on fcb.de yet... I hope we get more than the 25MEUR I've heard
about if we do sell him. There was a piece about KHR definitively
ruling out any sale of Shaqiri. If Kroos leaves then Shaqiri will get a
real chance (but so will Goetze).

So, from the WTF file, Pepe Riena signs for Bayern. I would have to
think this is the only club in Europe where he does not have the
slightest chance of becoming No. 1 keeper. Maybe he will get the odd
game due to injury? Maybe Pep will rest Neuer for some games, though I
am not sure that would be a good idea?

Or does this mean Manuel Neuer does not fit Pep Guardiola's footballing
philosophy?

Buying Spanish players was so two years ago. Costa Rican's are today!

We had that issue in the CL and against Dortmund last year.

|> Or does this mean Manuel Neuer does not fit Pep Guardiola's footballing

Guardiola already said we need a better Nr 2, as Starke is alright for
the BLiga but not really for the CL in his opinion. Moreover, Starke
went for an operation last year which is why we used Raeder against
Dortmund and might have had to use him in the CL (he's OK perhaps up to
the 2nd BLiga), and after a back operation your comeback is uncertain
until it's done.

After he cost your Amateurs the qualification to the 3rd Bundesliga he left
for Portugal.

In typical Hamburg fashion, HSV have been given handouts from the local,
upstanding businessman, tax evader to buy Nicolai Muller from Mainz.
Uli Hoeness would be proud.

I think Mainz may be a good relegation candidate this season.

I was at that game. I felt very sorry for him but football is a mean
mistress. As it happens that wasn't the first ball he under-ran in that
match, just the last and the one he couldn't recover on. It can be a
career killer.

Could be a Freiburg situation where they go down for one year and then
come back in a revamped guise but with the old ways intact.
