1. Unsophisticated DIY
Like the current game, but with two legs: each players plays each
other twice, once home and once away. Each week you have the following
moments:
1. Before Friday: each away player picks a match (you'll soon
understand why he'll pick a balanced match). Optional rule: if a match
has been picked by another player, you can't pick it.
2. Friday-Saturday 12:00 GMT: each home player picks one of the two
teams involved in the match picked by the away player. Obviously, the
away player will automatically pick the opponent team.
3. Obviously: result of the real match = result of unsophisticated
match.
E.g.: Futbolmetrix vs. milivella. (1) milivella picks Juventus vs.
Catania. (2) Futbolmetrix picks Catania. (3) Juventus 3-1 Catania =
Futbolmetrix 1-3 milivella.
Still to be decided: what if one of the players misses his actions,
i.e. (a) if the away player doesn't pick any match, or (h) if the home
player doesn't pick any team? I would say: (a) the gamemaster picks
some matches; (h) the away team, in the same moment that he picks the
match, specify his preferred side.
2. Unsophisticated Brasileirao
I've always thought about this game as a game about the very
competitive Brazilian league (hence the name), but of course the rules
can be applied to any league.
- There are e.g. 5 players.
- Before the beginning of the season, the game-master arranges 5
balanced sets of 4 team each. Each player picks one of such sets (so
each player has 4 teams).
- Each player scores one point for each point gained by his teams.
- More, each matchday the game-master submit the expected goal
difference of the league matches: e.g. Internacional-Santos -1 (i.e.
0-1, or 1-2. or 2-3, etc.). Each player can pick one of his teams, and
he gains/loses 3 points for each goal more/less the expected goal
difference. E.g. Jesus picks Internacional, and Internacional win 2-1
(i.e. 2 goals more than the expected goal difference) -> Jesus scores
6 points (obviously, he also scores 3 points for Internacional's win).
I'm waiting for your feedback. :)

- each gameweek the game host proposes a list of close matches from a
number of leagues - like what you and Enzo do now for the
unsophisticated and GD leagues.
- each player chooses one game and posts a predicted final score
(there's no restriction on a game being chosen by only one player).
- the points gained by the players are: 2 points for correct outcome, 1
point for a correct "goals scored" for either team, 1 point for correct
goal difference
- players that do not participate in the round get 0 points.
- the tie-breaker should be (I think) the number of predictions made, in
order to stimulate participation.
Example: game X-Y ends 3-1
- prediction 3-1 earns 4 points: 2 for outcome, 1 for correct goals, 1
for goal difference
- prediction 4-2 earns 3 points: 2 for outcome, 1 for goal difference
- prediction 3-2 earns 3 points: 2 for outcome, 1 for correct goals
- prediction 2-1 earns 3 points: 2 for outcome, 1 for correct goals
- prediction 1-0 earns 2 points: 2 for outcome
- prediction 1-1 earns 1 points: 1 for correct goals
- prediction 3-4 earns 1 points: 1 for correct goals
- prediction 0-2 earns 0 points
I think that it is sufficiently simple for the game host to score,
and allows the players to choose a game from a league they are
following. If people think it makes sense, there could be a slight
variation of the scoring to reward correct score predictions: if correct
goals scored is awarded 1 point for each, instead of total, then a
correct prediction would earn 5 points instead of 4 (2 for outcome, 1
for GD, and 1+1 for the correct goals).

No, no, you can't e-mail me with the nono.
Thanks for the feedback. :)

I agree with you. The Unsophisticated Brazileirao don't "require"
weekly participation, though: predicting every round you can gain
points, but also lose them.
Anyway, last season to propose a game (Unsophisticated Prediction
Contest) that didn't penalize constance was a priority for me. But I
saw that the most part of players played in every round anyway, so I
organized the actual game (Unsophisticated Prediction League), that
rewards constance (but not too much!). I think that the presence so
far has been high, so I don't think that it was a wrong choice.
Anyway, of course you sacrifice something (in this case, flexibility)
when you want to have some other features...
...and this point brings me to the reply to your proposal:

Nice! :)
Now I've to explain what I want to gain sacrificing flexibility and
(if you're right) simplicity. I'll try to do it briefly:
- Unsophisticated DIY: choosing balanced matches to submit to you give
me a special feeling; I want to see whether the same happens to you
all, if you are required to choose a match knowing that your opponent
will be able to pick the team.
- Unsophisticated Brazileirao (the one I prefer): unsophisticated
games so far lack continuity, this week you cheer for a given team but
the next week you'll cheer for another team (and eventually against
the former!); I've looked for rules that give you an attachment to a
set of teams against all the others. It's like Use-the-Net, where (I
don't know whether this effect has been obtained, but it was my
end...) Ronaldo belongs to Jesus and Jesus alone.
Now, maybe the game is not worth the candle and the rules I've
proposed are not good, but these are new directions that interest me.
