What, based on two luc^H^H hard-earned and
thorougly deserved wins 15 years ago?

Record in competitive matches (excl. Olympics for
excessive reliance on Grenoli): 5-1-4 in Austria's
favour, but in the four qualification cycles that
we were drawn against each other Sweden qualified
twice (a heart-breaking decisive play-off match for
the 1974 World Cup in Germany and 1994) and Austria
only that once in 1998. We won in the 1978 World Cup
group stage, alright.

I predict a draw, which would be in Sweden's favour
as you've

- not dropped any points against the minnows yet
(unlike Austria)

- managed to get a point against Germany (unlike
Austria)

Our only advantage is that we drew Ireland away
while you did at home, but if we all (that includes
both you guys and Ireland) keep drawing between
ourselves to the end of the campaign, the 2nd placed
team in the end will be the worst 2nd in a group
anyway.

Ah what the hell

U19 Euro qualifying:

Austria U19 - Sweden U19 3-0
(Sabitzer 33', 37', 62')

That's encouraging...

Line-up for tonight's game

Almer
Fuchs - Pogatetz - Dragovic - Garics
Baumgartlinger - Alaba - Arnautovic - Junuzovic
Harnik - Janko

Weak points: Fuchs, Pogatetz, Janko

Can't do much about the first two, but I'm
not exactly happy about Janko starting with
Weimann and Hosiner on the bench.

Werner

I forgot a weak spot - Robert Almer, the
goalkeeper that played all of 11 minutes for
his club this season.

1-1 draw. Ibrahimovic, Harnik.

Has Manniger retired? No Ivanschitz?

Regardless, this fresh young exciting Austrian team should beat the
old Swedish hunchbacks.

Yes, unfortunately.

Who should sit for him?

Already one and a half really good chances for Sweden.

Today Harnik > Ibrahimovic.

It's hard to believe we're actually somebody's bogey
team! Someone's *afraid* of us! This makes me all giddy.

He looks so young. And yet this is late in his career?

Hmm, 3 goals against Sweden - all important. Nice.

Well, he was a couple of days away from only turning 29 then.

The first one not so much, that was a meaningless match
as Sweden had already qualified for the USA. The real
drama in this group played out in Paris a week later...

Nice goal !

But while we are reminiscing about old times, when Scotland and Austria
could still qualify for a WC, what about this :-) !

Wasn't he in Augsburg... or was he loaned there from Mainz?

I meant Ivanschitz.

Manninger extended his contract with Augsburg for another year.
Good for both.

OK... Manninger was very good against us especially in the first half.

Not impressed by the defending.

No it was poor. The goal was scored by a journeyman who got very few
caps after that. If I recall the match reports Sweden were much the
better side, and it was a lucky win for the Scots.

Not impressed by the Scottish defending in the return match either, but
Kennet Anderson did score two nice goals.
