Best players in terms of what ?
Average,goalscoring,assists,defending ?

In what little experience i have had with CM2 (only about 2.5 months :) )
i have found that not only do players need good stats, but you need to play
them in a suitable formation.

In terms of outstanding players, i suggest you buy no-one from italy, as they
are invariably very slow to get off the mark, inconsistent and cost a lot of
money which you are very unlikely to recoup.
I always play my beloved Arsenal, and whenever i do play, i find that
David Platt is the most fantastic player i have ever seen.
He regularly scores 40+ goals a season for me from the midfield.
Bergkamp usually has a very good first season, 40+ goals also and many assists.

Some other players that i also regularly buy are :
Alain Sutter (FL) Switzerland
Adrian Ilie (FRC) Romania
Neil Lennon (AMC) Crewe
Richard Rufus (DC) Charlton
Dewhurst (forgot first name) (DC) low league club
Julen Guerrera (FR) Portugal

These guys always do VERY well for me, remember to place forwards either on
either corner of the 18-yard box (on the correct side of course) making short
runs straight backwards, or one place behing that and have them making some
diagonal runs to the opposite corners of the 18-yard box. Play as many strikers
as you have good ones in the central striking positions and have the forwards
just behind as neccessary. Also Attacking Midfielders (centre) are the key to
good scoring from the midfield, have 2 or 3 on the centre circle, making
diagonal runs to their opposite corners of the opposition 18-yard box.
Platt and Lennon should score 60-70 goals between them, bergkamp + sutter +
guerrera should score about 90.

Let me know if it works as well for you as it does for me :)

What about Batistuta? Undoubtedly the best player in the game. Also
Balbo is excellent

Simeone and Pfilipsen scored 55 and 45 respectively for me in one
season. But you're right about Platt. Like all the England team at the
moment, he's heavily overrated in CM2 (Platt, Gazza, Shearer, Pearce,
Beardsley etc)

>Bergkamp usually has a very good first season, 40+ goals also and many assists.

I've had an 80 goal season with Shearer in one game and an 85 with
Batistuta in an other. Has anyone had a 100 goal season yet? :-)

I'd add in from England: Rufus, Shearer, Platt, Seaman, Wise, Lennon,
Forster, Murphy, Cantona, Roy

and from abroad: Mattias Sammer, Mauro Silva, Abel Balbo, Ronaldo,
Batistuta, Bobic, Andersen, Simeone, Pfilipsen

I bought a 425K worth mexican left winger Alberto Garcia Aspe ...
wow ... after one season he was worth 6M !!! and had an average rating of
9.21 and scored 24 goals and 44 assists ...
He is HOT !

Hi, my favorite player is Ronaldo, in the last 3 seasons he scored 68,
63 and 65 goals, and sofar this season he has scored 32 after only 24
matches played.
Other very good players are: Kluivert, Kanu, Fowler, R. de Boer,
Cantona in attack.
Peake, Redknapp, George and Giggs on midfield.
And Neville, Rufus, Warhurst, Jones, Pavao and Edghill in defense.

I think Giggs and B. Laudrup are the best wingers, while if you're
playing direct style, Sutton will score consistently for you.

I agree that Batistuta is undoubtedly an incredible player. He scored
more than 200 goals in 3 seasons for me. Also, you should try Schmeichel.
Certainly the best keeper in the game.

Terrific!!! both of them......also Tony Vaughan

Others...I always buy them.....

Jason Peake (M LC)
Nick Summerbee (D/M R)
Robert Taylor (S C)
Peter Smith (D/M RC)......put him in the back line (Terrific Right Back)
Fredi Bobic (S C)

And ..... the best player I've ever been played.....

Thomas Hassler (AM R)

I bought him while managing Dundee United of Scotland.......in the 3rd or
4th season......when he's 31 .......He plays like GOD........got 10 in
every matches team won or tied ........

He got the great 9.50 ,9.21,9.04 in 3 seasons

Remember!!! He got over 9 in 3 seasons when he's over 30 years old

Also.....8.87 in the last season before his retirement!!!

I think no one in Scotland League can stop him!!!!!!

Tottenham 1999:

GK: Eric Thorsvedt (only weak link 37 years old)
RB: Warren Barton
LB: Sol Campbell (worth 6.5m)
CB: Richard Rufus (avg 9.1 player of the year)
CB: Chris Coleman (capt)
LM: Jason Peake
CM: Darren Caskey
RM: Gerard McMahon
ST: Chris Sutton (Euro player of the year - 58 goals value 9.5m)
ST: Chris Armstrong (200 goals in 4 seasons)
ST: Teddy Sheringham

Best Sub: Phil Gilchrist (great defender CB/RB - wanted by 4 teams)

There are better players for some of the positions, ie some of the
Crewe youngsters, but some of these players are excellent. Caskey
averaged 8.5 and scored a goal in the 1998 world cup final. Rufus is
simply the best defender, although Coleman comes close. McMahon is
OK, as is Sheringham. However, I cannot find a suitable replacement
GK!

The following season, I bought an ageing Paul Gascoinge and he
average 8.5 for me (replaced McMahon). I replaced Thorsvedt with a
Yugoslav GK, and replaced Sir Teddy Sheringham with Stan Colleymore.
I also put in Gilchrist for Barton.

Cheers
Dan

But he isn't in CM2 either!! I've had him have 70 goal seasons
(alongside Shearer's 80, Simeone's 50 and Pfilpsen's 40) and one watch
where he scored 7!!!

I have 2 more names to add:-

Julen Guerrero (F R): simply superb, rating average of 9.6 in the first
(Spain) season, scores regularly and more assists than goals

Kowalczyk W (F C): ratings 8.8, scores slightly less than Guerrero but many
(Poland) more assists

Both are internationals, around 25-27 and I don't think they are
generated players, got them at the end of my 2nd season. Got Racunica too
but these two are more impressive.

Got some English players too:-

Bushell S (AM C): stats very good, performance

Halliday S (AM/F C): played him as a forward but performed very badly,
took over in midfield due to injuries to other
midfields and has since turned in great performances.

Lee Harper (GK): Ratings 8.++, but got poached by Man U using the
big-club release clause while I was in the 1st division.
Dirt cheap too, maybe on free transfer at the beginning
of the game.

BTW, when will the patch come out, I keep getting poached by the `big
clubs' after bring Wycombe to the top of the Premiership.

I totally agree about Kowalczyk. I play him alongside Rosler and
ANOTHER as Man. City's strike trio. Great! Rosler has been top scorer
with 36-40 goals for 2 seasons but Kowalczyk has nearly as many goals
and way over 40+ assists. My third player is usually M.Ivan but I can
play almost anybody along side these two! Also use Foster (D R/C) from
Man. City if you can buy him in your first season. He is cheap but will
become a 3 million+ player within one year.
