I am a big fan of yours but after the latest happenings in the Premiership, I think Man Utd are
not going to win the league after all.
And Alex Ferguson, I think you are being a bit stingy too, YOu should get some new stars with the
money you got while selling our favourite stars like Ince , Hughes and Kanchelkskis.
All of us Man Utd fans are very jealous of other clubs like Newcastle already you know.
They have managers who will get star players like Ginola, Ferdinand and even Asprilla.
I hope you will really go into the transfer market to find a good player that can really help to
improve the team's play.
PLease don't get a player that takes such a long time to accustom to the team's play.
Like Cole, I still don't see why was he worth the 7 million pounds you paid for.

First, they might have been our favourite stars, but there were good reasons
for selling all of them. I'm still in mourning over Hughes but even I can see
that his time in the first team was coming to an end. I didn't want to see
him playing in the reserves, and I'm sure no other fans of his did. As for
the other two, we'll probably never know what really happened, but suffice to
say that if a player doesn't want to play for United, then he's better off
(and the club is better off) if he goes elsewhere.

>All of us Man Utd fans are very jealous of other clubs like Newcastle already

>They have managers who will get star players like Ginola, Ferdinand and even
Asprilla.

You speak for yourself only!! I'm certainly not jealous of other clubs, I
would not want to be a supporter of any other club, and I'm certainly not
jealous of them because of their managers. In Alex Ferguson, we have got the
best manager in this country, possibly even in the world. He sometimes makes
mistakes, yes, but in the main he does a brilliant job and I trust him to go
on doing it. In keeping faith with our young players and building for the
future rather than just for the next few months, he is following in the
footsteps of Matt Busby, and that's alright by me. Managers like Keegan have
made good signings, I would love to see players like Ginola playing at Old
Trafford, but if we do go out and sign all these big names, what do we do with
Paul Scholes, David Beckham, the Nevilles, Terry Cooke etc etc. Anyway,
Keegan's attempted signing of Asprilla is not looking so clever now, is it?

Again, Ferguson is building for the future. He sees potential in Cole as well
as ability. In a couple of years time, when Ferdinand is getting old, Keegan
will have to buy again. When Cole arrived at Old Trafford his game was
uni-dimensional, he had a role and he stuck to it. Since he came to United he
has improved his overall game 400%, he's now a much more well-rounded player
and will prove everyone wrong in the long run. But, therein lies the problem.
Many supporters have got used to winning championships etc and want instant
results. That's not realistic, nor is it always desirable. I've supported
United through 40 years of good and bad times and for me this is one of the
most exciting times. I just missed out on the Busby Babes, I was 10 years old
when Munich happened, but this new set of players coming through, and the set
after them who are playing in the reserves and the youth team, will keep
United at the top and will carry on the Babes tradition. This is not just my
opinion. Bobby Charlton was moved to tears at one game, I think the Bolton
game, becuase he said it was like watching the Babes all over again and he
likened Alex to Sir Matt. Having said all that, I would like to see us sign
a good central defender as Bruce reaches the end of his playing days (sob
sob!!)

Bye the way, its 38 years next Tuesday since the Munich crash. I hope that
all United fans will pause for a moment at some time during the day.

Alex Ferguson isn't anywhere near the best manager in the world, and if he is
the best in Britain, which I also dispute, it is because we have a very poor
standard of managers at the moment. Glen Hoddle is doing himself no harm in the
way he has brought football back to Chelsea and for all those who claim it's
merely Gullits presence don't forget how well Hoddle got Swindon playing before
he came to the Bridge. I wouldn't claim Hoddle is the best manager around just
yet, but I think he will soon become one of the finest we've had in England for
a long time

Linda, I hope that all Man Utd fans do indeed give some thought to it,
just like I do every year. The Munich disaster was a truly sad day for
all of football. Even those of us on the other side of the city do care
as well.

Mark,

It's good to know that there are City fans who also remember Munich. I always
find it particularly sad when obviously ignorant City "fans" (I put this in
brackets because I'm sure real fans wouldn't own them) do their aeroplane
impressions etc. I call them ignorant because they obviously don't know
enough about the history of the club they are supposed to support to remember
Frank Swift. Good luck against Coventry, I know most of the Red side of
Manchester are hoping for a Derby on the 18th. It's also good to see you
begin to move out of the relegation zone, the team is looking stronger every
day.

It must be that time of year, I'm starting to get soft!! Being nice to City
fans, what's come over me?

For anyone who's interested, the following poem is one which never fails to
move me to tears:

THE FLOWERS OF MANCHESTER

One cold and bitter Thursday in Munich, Germany,
Eight great football stalwarts conceded victory,
Eight men will never play again who met destruction there,
The Flowers of British football, the Flowers of Manchester.

Matt Busby's boys were flying, returning from Belgrade,
This great United family, all masters of their trade,
The pilot of the aircraft, the skipper Captain Thain,
Three times they tried to take off and twice turned back again.

The third time down the runway disaster followed close,
There was slush upon the runway and the aircraft never rose,
It ploughed into the marshy ground, it broke, it overturned,
And eight of the team were killed when the blazing wreckage
burned.

Roger Byrne and Tommy Taylor who were capped for England's side,
And Ireland's Billy Whelan and England's Geoff Bent died,
Mark Jones and Eddie Colman, and David Pegg also,
They lost their lives as it ploughed on through the snow.

Big Duncan he went too, with an injury to his frame,
And Ireland's brave Jack Blanchflower will never play again,
The great Matt Busby lay there, the father of his team,
Three long months passed by before he saw his team again.

The trainer, coach and secretary, and a member of the crew,
Also eight sporting journalists who with United flew,
And one of them Big Swifty, who we will ne'er forget,
The finest English 'keeper that ever graced the net.

Oh, England's finest football team its record truly great,
Its proud successes mocked by a cruel turn of fate,
Eight men will never play again, who met destruction there,
The Flowers of English football, the Flowers of Manchester.

Anon.

This anonymous poem was included in the United Review, Vol. 44
No. 21 on Wednesday February 23rd 1983 to mark the 25th
anniversary of the Munich Air Crash. It was apparently recorded as a folk song
by The Spinners on the album "The Spinners Volume Two: Black and White" in the
early 70's.

Now let's just hold it right there. I was with you up to "Now there is
Cole..." Hmm.... You don't watch many games do you? Otherwise you would
be aware of Cole's recent revival. I'm not saying that Andy is England;s
best striking talent, but it would be foolish to dismiss him as
"rubbish". If you had any knowledge what-so-ever of this season and the
end of last season you would also be aware of Giggs' dazzelling form of
late. The man is a genius. You are merely jumping on the "Giggs was a
bright spark who fizzeled out" band wagon.

>Butt, Bechkam,
>Scholes, etc, etc. WHAT ARE THEY DOING !!??

Once again your lack of ability to identify or recognise footballing
talent is astounding. If you knew anything about the team (or the game)
you would know that Paul Scholes, Cantona's disciple, shows great
potential and promise. Ferguson believes in Strength In Depth. That is
why the brilliant red head is on the bench at present. I was at the
WImbledon match on Saturday 3rd February ( we won 4-2 I didn't notice
Cole day dreaming as he executed a magnificent header in to the netting
from an inch perfect Irwin cross) and I saw some of the best mid-field
work at Man Utd since Ince and Hughes were doing the business. That
skill, my friend, came from David Beckham. Get a tape of the matches and
you will see what I mean. Also, you want to talk about fresh young
talent, then it would be worthwhile to give the England regular Gary
Neville a mention. You're willing to have a go at his younger brother,
but you must concede that Gary Neville is an amazing defender for his
years (21 yrs this month).

I fail to see how introducing players who you want to be top-level
professionals to top-level competition is "wasting away 38 games". Also-
"fetch some really good". Make a suggestion. Go on. Where do you think
the gap in the team is? I know the Red brigade is far from perfect, but
I can say where we are lacking. Can you?

Well, well, come on,man,Alex knows what's he doing since he is able to help
Man U to win some honours & i think u have to give him credit for that.
I see that u think u are capable of doing better than Alex with all that
criticism, and u want to apply for that job.
Anyway,I'm not a Man U official but a loyal Man U fan.

Hey, is anyone from this thread still around? I wanted to apologize for a comment on which I was proven wrong (by Sir Alex Ferguson of course).
