Disgraced Juventus boss Antonio Giraudo sentenced

It is thought unlikely Antonio Giraudo will actually be sent to jail
The former chief executive of Italian football club Juventus has been
sentenced to three years in prison for his role in a match-fixing scandal.

Antonio Giraudo was convicted on charges of criminal association and
sports fraud by a Naples court.

Giraudo is among the first of the high-profile figures from the world of
Italian football to have been tried for their role in the 2006 scandal.

Banned from football by a sports tribunal, he chose a fast-track trial.

But according to Italian news agencies he is unlikely to actually serve
his prison term both due to the country's appeals process and an amnesty
on non-violent crime committed before 2006.

His colleague and former Juventus director Luciano Moggi is also on
trial in Naples on similar charges.

Juventus was stripped of its Serie A titles won in 2005 and 2006 and
relegated to the second division with a nine-point penalty when the
match-fixing surfaced. The club is now back in the top-flight league.

The scandal was one of the most explosive in the history of Italy's most
popular sport.

Football clubs AC Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina were also penalised when
their involvement in the match-fixing was revealed.

Basically, Giraudo chose not to defend himself, so the judge's decision was
based on the ludicrously flawed report of the carabinieri (example: the
Carabinieri state that Moggi and Giraudo influenced the refs to book a
number of Udinese players in an Udinese-Brescia, so that they would not be
able to play the next week against Juventus. Among the players mentioned in
the Carabinieri report were Pinzi and Di Natale, who were not at risk of
being suspended, and indeed played the followuing week). The verdict is
likely to be overturned on appeal.

Anyway, score one point for the calciopolisti, but the big match is the
Moggi trial.

Funny, charge after charge has been discredited in this sham of a
trial. It is slowly comming out that Juventus did not cheat and that
Inter Milan actually got a ref fired during the same time because he
would not agree to report he made a mistake when red carding an Inter
player. At the time of the scandal or so called scandal it has been
reported now that Moggi was on the verge of signing C Ronaldo and
Gerrard. He was laying the foundations to make Juve the stongest team
in Europe. Inter would have been relagated to second class shit behind
Juve and AC Milan. As it turned out, the so called scandal put an end
to Moggi's plans and all deals were called off. It was reported today
that Moggi helped pick most of the winning Azzurri World Cup champions
in 2006. This so called scandal will not be over when the courts say
it;s over. Juve has been taking the punches and staying silent. You
could say they are a Lion sleeping. Wait till the Lion lifts it's head
and the ecnomic power of FIAT and their lawers go after the poeple who
fabricated these lies. In the end, the trophies will be returned to
Juve along with a cash settlement. This is not over by a long
shot.Enjoy yourselves Inter. We all lknow you fucks where behind this.
FIAT will be comming for you. You can run but you can't hide.
