"I was nervous. We were both speaking Scottish, something that I
learned when I played in his home city of Glasgow, but I can't tell
you what we said."

- He was so nervous that he spoke in Glaswegian Sign Language!

"I didn't want to argue with players and I did it with him, but I was
wrong to do what I have done. I will have to await what they decide."

- He would have gotten banned for even longer if he had slapped and
head-butted a player. Once the UEFA committee see Joe Jordan's
natural toothless grin and some of his tackles during the 70s, Gennaro
Gattuso may get off with a slap on the wrist.

I think what he did is generally referred to as a 'Glasgow Greeting', so
nothing unusual happened. ;)

He was called a "fucking Italian bastard". Given Jordan played for Milan
I'm surprised by him but that doesn't in anyway justify Gattuso's actions.

Yes, that's what he said. I'm not sure Gattuso knew who he was.

Jordan should be banned too, he's an assistant coach that provoked.

Nothing but I guess he's trying to distance himself from the comments
he's supposed to have made. If that's all it takes to wind up Gattuso
everyone should do it, including the Italian players.

I think you got that a bit confused? I believe it is called a
Glaswegian kiss and calling someone "a fucking Italian bastard" is a
Sicilian greeting?

Jordan says be before the match:

"I was fortunate to move there from United and it was arguably the best move
of my career."

"Things are tough on and off the field, but they looked after me and I'll
always be thankful for that."

etc...

Then he calls Gattuso a "Fucking Italian bastard"...

I would be ok with it if he called him a "Fucking bastard", but what he said
is a racial slur.

So he should be punished from Uefa too.

Racial slur? How is "Italian bastard" more offensive than "Scottish

I have to agree with Diabolik here. Putting a nationality or racial
designation as an adjective before an insult implies a racial tinge
more often than not, because one's heritage is being used as part of
the insult.

Personally I would not want to be called an Italian Bastard either but
I dont see it being any worse than just being called a Bastard? And in
fact if you go back to Materazzi saying something about Zidane's
mother or sister in the 06 final I think that is much worse than if he
just called him a Frog or French bastard or something like that?

True, not 100% sure what he said. But I assume he said something like that.

The point is Jordan had no business saying anything to Gattuso. I don't
remember the last time I saw a coach, assistant or otherwise, shout at

There is ZERO restriction on interaction between opposing staffs. Any
bitching about "the exchange of opinions" completely missed the point.

So the point has changed has it? It has changed from Jordan saying
something insulting to Gattuso which has been claimed only by
Gattuso's agent (who wasn't there,) to Jordan saying anything at all
to Gattuso - and that apparently being a justification for Gattuso's
two assaults on Jordan.Do you make it up as you go along?

When did I justify Gattuso's actions? I didn't. It doesn't matter what
Jordan said, he could have called Gattuso a twat, wouldn't have
mattered, he shouldn't have said anything at all.

I'm old enough to have seen Joe Jordan in action. In his day centre-
forwards were allowed to get away with anything on the field so long
as they were going for the ball. If the keeper had the ball Jordan
would fly in to try to kill the keeper before he could get two hands
on it. Every tackle he went for was a studs-showing two-footer.

To be fair to him, everyone else was doing that too, but those UEFA
committees who are trying to ban all physical contact would have
kittens if you ever showed them 1970s football!

Jordan shouldn't have been shouting at opposition players. If the shoe

Perhaps we should bans from shouting at them too - if they all lose

I have made no excuses for Gattuso, UEFA could ban him from Europe for
the rest of his career for all I care.

Good point. I hope Van der Sar saw that.

Jordan is an old man with whom Gattuso would wipe his arse if he wished to, and
there isn't one damned thing Jordan could do about it short of beg for mercy.

Y'all puffing out your chests (and Jordan's, by proxy) talking about how his
old arse would do anything to Gattuso at all are fooling yourselves.

If Binny meant on the pitch, as Jordan was (and where he absolutely didn't
belong), he has a bit of a point. Jordan was out of line. Gattuso's response
was even more out of line, but Jordan was begging for a twatting.

The point is Gattuso assaulted Jordan twice. I've seen more football
than you've had hot dinners sonny - from long before Jordan's era.

And only a four-match ban. Pitiful.
