Only one other truck at the LZ and it was work bud. I'd already dreampt up
an artinery for the day and this kind of cramped it. He's a trail rider and
I'm an explorer which generates a conflict of interest and the scheme I
concocted was to waste enough of his gas so as to scratch the long winded
trail blast off the list of options. And here we go, dressed light, spitting
snow, flat light, gravel n ice highway hell which was pretty fun becouse I
have a soft spot for junk conditions. Lets take this left, yeah this one,
yeah that's the one I was talking about. How something so close to the drop
spot could be so vast, cool, and untracked is mind bogling. The gold at the
end of this rainbow afforded some of the best riding I've ever done. Todays
picture doesn't add a lot of depth to what I'm talking about and less then a
1/4 mile to the left of this spot high on the hill I ripped a through the
trees climb in 10 inch fluff over soft crust over many feet of cream like
something out of a dream. Looking down on no ski marks and bud says it sang
fine style in the land of no noise. Sled worked like it was suppose to on
this day and stick around becouse I got some good stuff from the late
afternoon session.

Lookie here now boy ....
You're getting that "depth of field" shat down!
Sled and bark on tree, to the left, is perfectly focused.
Yet young fir tree in foreground and hills in background, blurred!
Atta boy!

And it only took 798 practice shots to achieve lol. 70-200 2.8 Canon lense
is a smoking piece but I'm finding it's use limited. To do over I'd buy the
24-70 2.8 for it's wider angle which I believe would better soute my style.
I'm also finding it hard to achieve repeatable optimum focus on account of the
minscule eyepiece so perhaps a magnifier is in order. Some of the pictures to
follow are with the stocker lens set on autofucus and the images are okay in
detail but not up to the task of accurately depicting that once a year
oportunity hint hint. BTW, my back is raw from lugging that ergonomic
nightmare of a camera case!!

Nice pic, and I guess it is time to share my lately activities!
I forget if I posted about this trip before at all but it sure was a
gooder. The UP of Michigan has some of the finest riding around and
I'll be dammed if the off-trail is not elbow deep.
Someone played follow the leader up the unbeaten path. Turns out the
slight uphill was just a little too much for I. Can't tell very well
but the last 15 feet was a real struggle and I think small children
could get lost in it's depth.

Some of the on-trail are just like freeways. This is the kind of thing
where you loose 10mph and 20 core degress when you stand up! And bad
clutching will take its toll!

All that is worth it to make it to the shore though. Pretty good pic here:

Different trip but same sound. Here is a little shot of me playing on
the forest service's pits.

Trailside lunch of brats over a fire is always tasty!!

Next up April 1-2 at Giants Ridge in Biwabik, MN, then the season ender
April 8-9 at Spirit Mt in Duluth, MN.
The smell of race gas, the people, the nightlife, and the women are not
too shabby in the racing scene :)

I'm still good to go with plenty of gas and I begun my sales pitch about how
we should do the hill since it's still early and not far away. He took the
bait which didn't much matter becouse I knew on the drive up that I weren't
leaving untill I stood on top of ol 3640, partner or not. Bonzi scram through
the junk again with out any of this stoping and talking shit on the way.
Pause at the single track trail head to rest and wait for bud. Were parked
for not even a minute and here comes six sleds headed for the hill. Just
looking at what and how they rode told the tale about em never making it to
the top and now I'm bummed becouse you know your going to get stuck waiting
for who knows how long. Told bud I'm going, I don't care, and I aint waiting
for them jebronis to dick around. 1/3 way up is the first major obsticle in
the form of a knarly trench caused by sleds and water, sure enough a
conjegated croud of stuck sleds but not in my way. I motored the trench with
authority and got seriously crossed up some how which resulted in a first
class wipe out. I'm planted in the snow to the right and my sleds upside down
front left at the end of the trench idling about 300 rpms, ning ning. Kill
switch like nothing every happened, muscle sled upright enough to hold it with
my hip blah blah, you all right, huh what, see ya bye. Six witnesses got a
good story to tell. Two more top side prior to the big bad challenging blast
and I gave a gratuitous knod as I motored on by. Barely any wind, solo on the
summit, storm clouds breaking all around, moderate temps, and my right
shoulder feeling like I fucking landed on it or something. Very cool place to
be and didn't leave untill sun down.

Anyway, here's my daily contribution and it's a pretty good picture that had
the potential for greatness. Trouble is, I can recognize and visualize what
makes a jaw dropper image but I don't have the skill to put it all together,
yet. This ones a prime example and what I wanted was superior forground color
and whites while retaining cloud contrast, or something like that. What I
ended up with was an overall dulled view with noise that should have been shot
from a step or two more to my left. For another day I guess.
