I'm getting coflicting answers about the settings for the air screws
on my 96 XCR600 SP. The manual reads 1.5 turns. But my sled runs like
shit if I set them at 1.5 turns. Another guy told me 3/4 of a turn
max. My sled uses the VM38SS (triple) carbs. I'm riding primarily in
NH and canada. Any input would be appreciated.

Throw the manual out.... that sled was the worst out of the box setup by
Polaris in recent years.

(ps the '98 Doo 500 saved it from being named by me as the worst of all
vendors)

I have mine set at 1 turn, but I also have 370 main jets on the middle cyl.
and the mag side and a 360 on the PTO side. I dropped the needle 1 clip from
factory which on mine was in the middle. It is very lean on startup and I
let it idle quite a while in cold weather to keep from cold seizing it. I
put the almond drive spring in the clutch. With these adjustments it runs
pretty good. My buddy has the same sled and his runs better with 380 jets. I
think 370 is alittle lean below zero degrees F. I also cranked my front
track down and brought the weight off the front end , I also loosened the
front limitter strapped to show about 1/16" of thread. I love the sled now .
Happy sledding. Mike

I have one of these sleds and it ran decent last year with 40 pilot jets and
1.5 turns out on the air screws this year I drilled out the air bypass like
everybody and the service bulletin mentions and I was too lean I am now
running at 1 turn and it is still a bit lean I may have to fatten up the
pilots but it isn't too bad You should drill out the air bypass this helped
mine out allot

What is this talk about drilling out the air bypass? I own a 96' 600 XCR
SP. I love the sled, my only complaint is that mine lacks bottom end power.
The jets are PTO-350 Center-370 Mag-370. Just like the jetting chart says,
but it still bogs out when I pin it, Also I can usually smell fuel when it
bogs. Anybody hane any ideas. Have any of you guys with the same sled
changed the gearing on it?

Linda,

I have #40 pilots and run about 1 turn.
10AL weights, HotSeat White spring.
Change Needle Jets to Q4 (see high altitude settings for 6000')
Clip in the middle.
I also changed the TOP Gear to a 19t from a 21t. You can use the same
chain as it is the shortest one that Polaris makes. The stock helix is
a 34. I have a 42-36 but I'm told that a straight 36 would work well
also.

It jumps now....
