I would like to put pipes on my sled, does anyone have any opines on
this? If so what makes (SLP, PSI, etc) and what setups worked the best
(main jet, pilot jet, needle seting). Was your sled trail
ridable?
thanks,
97 xc 600

The 97 is begging to be piped. I have a 95 with SLP pipes and it runs
really hard. Here's my set up.
Gutted Air box
SLP pipes
SLP heads (97XC should be somewhat similar)
Exhaust ports lightly polished

Clutch:
Erlandson Yellow secondary spring
Erl. QA-2 helix
10 MW weights
Erl. white primary spring.

Grearing:
19-39, but I like to have it set for pure acceleration. 20-39 should be a good
set up, 21-39 isn't that bad either.

Carbs:
Try 300's, maybe 290 with the above mods @0-3000. And maybe 40 Pilot jets.

I have a 95 XCR 600 with a 654 kit, SLP porting, pipes, heads, airbox.
It is very quick and rideable, it starts very well also. Go to SLP's home
page and go under tech info and they have page to install and setup a XCR
600 giving clutch, carb set up. Good luck.

engine: 654 SLP ported and heads (you won't need heads they are similar),
removed oil injection running prem @ 34:1

carbs: stock 38's, with 290,280,280 with dial a jets,e-clip middle,35
pilot, SLP air box

clutch: hot seat kit with 50/36 helix, 10m red, 19/39 gearing (great out of
hole) eng. 5500 top 9000

chassis: stretched to 133.5, light weight skis, pyros, 478 lbs dry

I put this sled together this year after buying it this fall stripped down
to frame rebuilding suspension, doing shocks, bearings and inspecting. If
you have trouble getting SLP's page let me know and I will get the adress
and will help out.

Ran Pro5 pipes on my 96.(check them out..best I tried)...very easy
setup.. very quiet...fooled most people..canister muffler style..big
diff in perf and not finicky at all....

Easiest setup I ran was 10mr polaris weights....36 deg helix...rest
stock...basically 260 mains at all temps worked fine...ran 91-9200 and
lasted 4000 miles hard riding.
Tried diff clutch kits..but best setup in mine ended up 10mr
weights..42-34 helix
orange HPE spring.rest stock.
Went like stink....but I had to put on a newer .9 track to use
it..otherwise forget it!!Outran stocker by 12 mph in quarter and a good
dozen lengths..
Whatever setup you get....it works on these engines..

I've had good luck with both SLP & Dyno Port... Install per instructions
then spend the money on a dyno session to get the set up dialed in. The
time you save getting set up will be worth the expense.

While you were dynoing the sled what kind of HP numbers were you getting
with the SLP and dynoport pipes? Also what other kind of modifications did you
try?
