I am still trying to decide what used sled to buy. I started out looking
for a 98-99 MXZ 500 or 670 priced around $4000 C. I have notice a few 99 MXZ
600 for around $4500 C. Is the ZX chassis a lot better than the older S2000?
Is the rear skid frame different? What year did the SC10 change to a SC10
II. What I am trying to say is it worth the extra money to buy a ZX.
Did the 99's have any common problems? Thanks in advance for any advise.

The ZX is a much lighter chassis, handling is quite a bit better. The early
600's with the cast iron cylinders had a bit of a problem. The Cast Iron
horns in the cylinders were too long and had a tendency to collapse and
pinch the piston. This would cause the motor to seize for no apparent
reason. This was not a common occurrence but did happen often enough to the
early 600's for it to be a concern. I would recommend looking for a 2001 700
or 800, better motor and probably not much more gold. I rode a 600 summit
rental sled last winter, kind of poochy feeling about the same as my buddies
xc600 for power but rode a lot better. Hope this helps.

The Zx chassis is lighter and more rigid. The mass is also more
centalized and the Zx has a superior front suspension with more
travel.

The 99 MX-Z 600 (Zx chassis) had the SC-10 xc. In 2000 it came with a
SC-10-2.

The old rotary valve engines in the S2000 sleds are tough to beat.
They were very durable, reliable and powerful motors, and in the case
of the 670 HO (99 MX-Z 670HO) created even more power than their
current cylinder reed counterparts.

The S chassied sleds were no slouches but in my opinion the Zx sleds
edge them out.....

I wouldnt touch a 99..I had one and the suspension was crap compared to my
98+97.Rest of sled was fine...Find a 00 and up, it was changed and much
better. Or if you dont ride bumps, then it wont matter. Just my take.

Carl, you're getting good advice from all directions here, but I'm a
sucker for that 670 rotary-valved Rotax that comes in the HO. It will
still smoke the 700 and the 600HO Series 3 engines that 'Doo now puts
in the ZX chassis.

I really like the look of the ZX chassis, but I'm sure you can get a
great deal on a '98-99 MXZ 670HO in the S-chassis. I saw two in the
trader last night for 2800-2900 C.

Hi Rob, thanks to everyone for their advise and input. I like the Rotax
rotary-valve engine as well, my 98 formula 500 worked great. I have not had
any experience with the newer engines in the ZX chassis so that is why I
started out looking for a 98-99. I guess it will come down to finding the
right sled for the right price. If I can't find a 98-99 in good condition I
will have to spend the bucks on a ZX. I better go out and get the new trader
today. Hey Rob what trader had the 2 mxz 670 ? I am in the Toronto area.
Thanks Carl
