From reading Snowgoer and Snowmobile ?????? mags, they seem to damn
the new MXZ with faint praise. I personally like the MXZ's but the
mags damned them for the same thing they did last year - inside ski
lifting, poor seat, not enough power (583), too small for large
riders, etc. You think Ski Doo would catch on by now.

On the other hand, they really got on Yamaha for the useless
windshield on the srx.

Agree or disagree?

My mxz 670 (98) handles great, verly little if any ski lift, I feel 100%
more confident on it than on My ZR 580 (97). However like you said the
speed isn't there, the green 600's can pass me. I don't think the seat
is to short (I'm 6ft.), at first I thought it was short, but I ride way
forward on the sled anyway.

SnowTech magazine apparently thinks that the 99 MXZ 600 is sled of the year!

I love my 97 MXZ 583. I am 6'4" and have had two major knee surgeries
(severed ACL and had cartilage removal just a few years back) and I have not
found room to be an issue on the sled at all (heck my in seam is 34"). I
have no problems with the seat at all. Not enough power I sure don't think
so I can hit 100mph and stay ahead of all the other 600's and right there
with the 700's. Ski-lift I will give them that BUT that is what makes the
sled even more fun. I think ski-doo's only problem is they didn't make any
changes over a couple of seasons to it and the mag's what to see them.
(Especially since if there are no changes there is no need for us sledheads
to buy their mags). I think it comes down to Microsoft vs Unix. Unix is
tried and true and doesn't break because it doesn't change, where Microsoft
is new and changing with new features every month but has a lot to say for
stability.

Yes, I agree the windshield on the Yamaha SRX is very close to useless.
However, some people feel that a proper windshield doesn't look very
good on the SRX while it is sitting at a pitstop.

I'm with Mike.....
My 97 MXZ 583 is a fun sled to ride !
Ski-lift is definitly there (even with the USI's).
I'm not that big, 5'9" 160. so I have no probs. with the seat or anything else.
I do think that the wind shield is about useless though, but wouldn't trade it
for anything (cause it look's cool)!
Could use a little more power, but thats why I ordered a 670 HO.

Small windshields are useless at keeping the wind off but much better
at keeping the snow down and your aformentioned showroom apeal. I like
the windshield (if it can be called that) on my MXZ because I get the snow
that goes over the hood in my lap vs. the face!

I put the medium windshield on. And it really doesn't look bad a all. Plus
it now actually deflects the wind. What a concept!!

I have the tall windshield too. It really makes it nice on the colder days.
Plus I have the ETS kit in my SC 10. No ski lift with that.

Tom,

How do you like your ETS-10? I have a '98 MXZ670 and am considering it. When
you installed it did you notice a change and what was it? Have you changed your
ACM setting? A&D Boivin say that it takes care of kick back and I am not sure
that I have experienced it on my sled, or if I have I do not know that I am.

I like it!

When

Better handling and smoother ride....reduced off the line traction.

Have you changed your

Yes its a tight as i can get it.

Not sure myself, but it does ride nice and the skis don't lift.

My friend got a 98 MXZ 500 and it has had a lot of
trouble with the engine. I am pretty sure it is a lemon
because I haven't and the dealer has only heard a bit about
the problem it has. I sucks all the coolant through engine
and through the exhaust of course. He only got 36 miles on it
last winter because each time he took it out the temp light
would go on then pop the hood up and no coolant! The dealer
thinks they have it figured out. Anyone else hear of this problem?

Thanks for the input! I can understand the weight transfer issue. One last
question: are you studded and if so qty & size?

I sure have never heard this. I will inquire with my dealer to see what he
says when I take my 97 MXZ 583 in for the recall (in Oct)

Cannot wait for snow

You will see the biggest difference in the stutter bumps. Helps a great deal. Had
the kit on a '96 FormulaSS/670. Easy to install with help. I did it alone in about
an hour. Crank the ACM all the way loose till you can see just a couple threads on
the nut. Riding double? Got the 15MM wrench in the kit. Crank it tighter.

Would buy it again, but they don't make one for the SC-10 Mountain. See the '99
Summit "X" should be delivered any day. Won't be taking that TANK back to
Yellowstone this year. Hernia operation or new sled. You can see who won that
battle.

Highly recommend the Goodwin clutch kit for that sled as well. Takes some top end
(no 105 on the speedo), but it goes like hell to 95mph. You will create a torque
MONSTER!

670 Kicks Ass! Can't wait to fire up the H.O.

See ya,

You mentioned that you crank your ACM all the way out. How is your weight transfer?
Does it still limit it?

105mph on the speedo????? Mine can do about 95 on the speedo. If I am
very lucky it'll touch 100mph, and if I'm really, really, really, lucky
it can hit 105 (like 1 time last winter). So if I install the clutch
kit I'll top out at 85???? No thanks
