Can anybody give me proper head bolt torque for a Polaris 500 motor?
Thanks.

I have an Indy 440 liquid cooled, so basically the same engine...
I just put Wiseco pistons in and the included instructions say
8mm cylinder head nuts at 17ft-lbs and the 10mm cylinder head
nuts at 29ft-lbs... hope this helps and happy snowmobiling...

I think Josh is right... I've had my '90 500 apart 3-4 times and each
time had to retourque after hot to around 35 ft.lbs. Wouldn't go much
higher. Of course you know to start from the center and work your way
out, best to go around in three stages to ensure even torque. The
following is from memory, should work. I can double check if needed.

Sure thing, just happen to have my Polaris Master Repair Manual Volume II handy so here goes.

Cylinder head bolts    Liquid Cooled
  8 mm = 17-18 ft lbs. (2.2 to 2.3 Kg/m)
10 mm = 24-26 ft lbs. (3.6 to 4.0 Kg/m)

The air cooled twin is strictly 17- 18 ft lbs.

Crankcase torque is the same for 8 mm but for 10 mm are 23-25 ft lbs. (3.2 to 3.5 Kg/m).
Need anything else just ask...
Mines an '89 500 FYI
