THINK SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No offense Gerry, but Bombardier is a multi-BILLION dollar company, it in fact
DOES have enough money to buy both Polaris AND Arctic Cat, if they so desired.
That being said, I have heard nothing regarding this rumor and highly doubt
that it is true.

Some quick financial information 1998 revenue in excess of 8.5 Billion
canadian dollars so even with the crummy value of the canadian dollar that
is well over 5 Billion U.S. dollars. Don't have total polaris figures but
1998 revenue was just over 1 Billion dollars.
Now mind you that is just revenue when you start looking at balance sheets
like total assets on hand, etc. there is no competition.

You got that right.... Bombardier is a Huge corporation.... they
probably could purchase both the american sled makers, but like the
president of Ski Doo said. it's the competition that makes sleds keep
getting better.

Hmm. I havn't seen any Jet Aircraft being produced by Polaris
recently.. FYI, Bombardier isn't only snowmobiles..

That's for sure... Bombardier is a huge company who by comparison only
dabbles in recreational products.
And given their continuing red ink on RP one would doubt expansion by
acquisition would be viable. Polaris, as Chadek mentions is a publicly
traded company so a premium would make it very expensive.
Besides *if* (big IF) Doo already makes the best snowmobiles all the
customers will be flocking to yellow anyway... :^)

Just a quick tidbit on Bombardier. In 1994, I bought stock in
Bombardier. Since then, they have
had two 2-for-1 stock splits. I now have 4 times as much stock &
equivalent value. 400% increase in less
than 5 years. Stock analyists are predicting 30% growth yearly for the
next 3 years. I'm buying more stock!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm reading the latest annual report right now. From 1989 to the present,
the rec products division is up $608.3 million (Canadian). Up $506.8
million in the last 4 years. What does that say?

What report are you reading?
Check the latest Annual Report issued (January 31, 1998)
Income: (in Millons, Canadian)
Motorized Total
Consumer Bombardier Corp
Products Includes all division world wide
1998 $1.4 $420.2
1997 $212.3 $406.2
1996 $176.3 $158.0
1995 $116.8 $247.3
1994 $76.6 $177.3
1993 $28.4 $133.7
1992 -$6.8 $107.7
1991 -$21.9 $100.1
1990 $11.0 $91.5
1989 $14.2 $68.3
Looks like Motorized consumer products lost mone in 92, 91 not for the
last 12 years.
Steven LaMunion
Expenses?
Or is that actually net income?
If i'm reading the Annual Report correctly, for the last 4 years, the rec
products division of Bombardier has:
Revenues=$6.092 BILLION
Net Income=$506.8 MILLION (before taxes)

If Bombardier stole ideas from Polaris... tell me why Polaris try to buy
the RER from them... and don't forget the V.E.S. it's seems very similar

VES may look the same to you but it works from a different side of the
combustion process and has more low end enhancments. More refined and
sophisticated you might say. Bombardier is to Rupaul as Polaris is to Cyndy

RER is interesting... Is it owned by Bombardier or by Ducati who makes the
CDI units for them?
BTW Polaris already uses the Ducati boxes in some sleds....
Copying the RAVE concept instead of stealing the actual product is the
only way Polaris could stay out of the courtroom. As for "different
side of the
combustion process".... they are both varying the exhaust backpressure

Look at Polaris now: they've got some GREAT domestic engines, aren't
Americans proud of this? Even though they may have incorporated others'
ideas into their design, building a motor that strong and reliable at
first attempt is no small feat. Yamaha also builds its own engines,
Skidoo on the other hand, cannot say the same. Sure Bombardier is
technologically up-to-date in their engine department, but the motor
better be good for the amount of money they're funnelling abroad for
it. Being Canadian, I'd be most interested in seeing what sort of a
motor Skidoo could domestically put together.
LED SLEDHED (loyal only to quality)
Dear Gary, my point is exactly that!
Polaris came out with IFS and Hydralic brakes in the late 70's but Ski doo
refined them them to fit there chasis and all around make them better and the
Polaris took those designs and said they refined them. It has a decade or so
since polaris finally put a new brake on there sleds and that is only because
of poor braking marks on all there sleds tested by magazines such as Am
Snowmobiler, and SnowGoer. If you would like to continue this chat e mail me
