99 Hot Sled Snowmobile World Cup of Grass Drags - Results

Cup of Grass Drags
eclipsed last years record of 375 entries making it the largest ever
Snowmobile Grass Drag
Race in Canada . After nine year years of hosting world class snowmobile
drag racing in
Fenwick, promoters were very pleased to announce that spectator totals were
on par with last
year's event at 5,150 in attendance.
A major reason for the successful racer turnout was the first ever
cooperative effort between
MSDRA (Michigan Snowmobile Drag Racing Association), COSDRA (Central Ontario
Snowmobile Grass
Drag Association) and PRO (Powersled Racing Organization). Racers were also
drawn to the
world class facility to experience the new blue clay starting line which was
added to the
track to provide an even better holeshot for the racers. The result of the
track upgrade was
a Hot Sled Snowmobile World Cup of Grass Drags elapsed time record in the
Heavy Mod 1000 class
of 4.598 by Rheaume Rodrique of Ste. Justine, PQ. Although just shy of Marc
Gelormini's 4.57
E.T. from November 1998 many recognized Rodriques performance as incredible
since the air
temperatures was was almost 20 degrees celcius warmer than the day of the
World Record set by
Gelormini at the Hot Sled Mod Shoot-out last year.
One of the other highlights of the weekend was the firey finish of Wayne
Legge of Vin Bon
Racing won managed to safely abandon his sled at the finish line just before
it burst into
flames due to a fuel leak. Although Wayne managed to leave the scene with
minor injuries his
modified Ski-doo was totally charred and destroyed. On a lighter side
spectators were treated
to a full spectrum of powersports excitement with personal watercraft, ATV
and snowmoible
exhibitions from leading product manufacturer's such as Bombardier
Recreational Products,
Bender Racing, Polaris industries (Goertz Equipment) and others.
Next year's Millenium World Cup of Grass Drags is scheduled for August
19-20, 2000 and the
1999 Hot Sled Stock and Mod Sled Shoot-out is slated for November 6-7, 1999.
