Plastic over concrete - mid-sized - rectangular
Skate Shop - Snack Bar - Games - Smoking Area - Not Airconditioned
In-line skates permitted and for rent
[ tbu...@direct.ca (Debra Burton) - edited from form ]
The skating floor at Stardust is plastic over concrete mid-sized and
roughly rectangular, with no obstructions. It was sanded and recoated
in the fall of 1995, and is fairly smooth and is swept regularly and
has fairly good traction with skates.
Stardust includes a pro-shop which stocks both quad and in-line products
and paraphernalia; it's also the only known outlet for quads in the area.
There is a snack bar, candy counter, games section, smoking section (for
some sessions), and a party room. While there is no air conditioning,
the rink is kept well ventilated by fans.
Although Sunday evening is the only adults-only session, the crowd on
Friday nights is more young adults than kids; generally, it is the
most mellow group outside of the Sunday evening session. The Adults
Only session features a mix of Top-40 and requests (usually '70's),
whereas the All Ages sessions are more contemporary.
The rink has a number of strong points, including a DJ to play requests
and tailor music toward the particular session. The recently refinished
floor and addition of special lighting effects add to the fun atmosphere.
Besides the regularly-scheduled skates, there are occasional all-night
skates and special events, as well as hockey programs, lessons, and a
number of full-service birthday party packages available.
The rink management is very keen on balancing responsibility with
entertainment, and therefore, while their goal is for everyone to have
a good time, a strong emphasis is placed on safety and decorum. This
makes the rink ideal for families, and all skaters who are looking for
a year-round, indoor venue. Stardust is the only rink in the area
devoted entirely to roller skating.

This is the best run rink I have visited. It has a nice wood floor,
which is showing some signs of age but they are re-finishing it one
section at a time.
Very family oriented rink. Pro shop, snack bar, video games, lockers.
[ "Phil b. Armishaw" <76604...@compuserve.com> ]
The Forum in Cambridge was renovated and the floor was completely redone.
It has changed hands and is now owned by a skater. This is now the best
rink by far in southern Ontario. Adult nights Mondays and Thursdays
with Thursday being harder dance music and catering to the faster skater.
[ Jeff Stephens <step...@ionline.net> ]
As of September 1995, the Forum is under new ownership. The new owner has
done a number of changes to The Forum including: a complete refinishing of
the floor, re-modeling, an addition of a party area called "Fun Land" that
includes a large jungle gym, and painting the back straight wall with
famous music stars.
I've talked to the owner about his plans for the future and there is still
more to come. I live in Kitchener and have skated at The Forum for about
the last 9 years. This is the best shape I've ever seen The Forum in.
The Forum is the home of the largest rollersports club in all of Canada,
the 8 Wheels Rollersports Club. 8 Wheels has divisions in Speed - quad
and in-line, Artistic, and Roller Hockey - quad and inline. If you have
questions about the club, e-mail: step...@ionline.net (Jeff Stephens).

a large Woolco store in Saute Ste. Marie. The other facilities
include a bowling alley, a sports bar, motel and office space.
A business journal quotes the owner as saying that the roller rink
isn't doing as well as hoped for, but it will stay open until he
comes up with something else to do with the space. The owner is
also hoping to build a walkway across a street to connect to the
adjacent shopping mall, but the town is not cooperating.

Rinx is a relatively new facility. They have an ice surface and a
painted concrete roller surface (for roller hockey), and some other
entertainment facilities.
They were trying to have public roller sessions on Friday and Saturday
nights. I showed up last Saturday and it was fairly empty. Tonight I
went back hoping to see some growth, but instead, the management has
closed down "public skating" till Labour Day (Sept?). The rink itself
is still open for bookings, and as far as I know, they *will* survive
just on hockey bookings.

Inline Skaters, Skateboarders and BMX riders - Come and Have a Blast
With Us! The only place of its kind in the Montreal area. Whether you
like to skate with your friends to background music or go crazy on
ramps and rails We have it all! This place is huge!
Tazmahal is a non-profit organization. As a center for skate boarding,
inline skating and youth activity, it has it's place in this community.
We are a private non-sponsored and non-financed project. We are lovers
of the skateboard and in-line sports.
A Recreational Skating Area - This area is for everyone. We have the
largest skating floor anywhere in Montreal. Tricks, fancy footwork,
cones, are all alowed in this area. We believe skating should be fun
and will not limit you to just skating in circles.
A Skate Park - Street course ramps, rails, a small halfpipe and a large
halfpipe, too. This is an extreme skater's and skateboarder's dream!
Protection is mandatory when doing ramps and rails. Inline skaters must
wear helmet, elbow and knee pads. Skateboarders must wear helmets and
elbow pads. Rentals for skates and pads available.
We offer courses from beginner to extreme. There is a Speed Skating
Club Every Sunday morning from 10:00 to 12:00. Open to all speed
skaters or anyone who want to try out inline speed skating.
BMX - Yes, even you guys and gals who love bikes are welcome at Tazmahal.
Flatlanders can ride in designated areas during normal hours. A Street
Course is available Sundays from 18:00 to 22:00 if the skate park isn't
busy. Riders on ramps need to "cap their pegs" to avoid damaging th
ramps. Helmets must also be worn on the ramps.
