Springdale is located in northwestern Arkansas, north of Fayetteville.
Take Highway 71 to Springdale and take the Highway 412 exit. Proceed
east toward Springdale and Century Street will be on your left. It is
a little hard to see. There is a used car dealership on the right on
Highway 412 directly across from Century Street. Once you turn onto
Century, the rink will be on your right and you can't miss it.

There is a NIHA santioned League in Albuquerque. They play at a
real in-line hockey outdoor rink at the YMCA on Commanche. They
have Fall, Spring and Summer sesions. They also have various levels
according to age and skill level. They are very limited right now
and you have to get on a waiting list to be able to register for
the next session. For more information you can call Bud Witte at
505-298-9889, he is the director of the New Mexico Roller Hockey
Club.
They are breaking ground for a new hockey complex on the West side.
It will include one outdoor roller hockey rink, one indoor roller
hockey rink and one indoor ice hockey rink. It is [1996] supposed
to be done soon.

Skate America has one of the best floors I have ever skated. It is
large, official Hockey size and flat. I did not find a single flaw
in the wood slats, and I looked very hard. The owner said something
about the sub-floor was the secret, but I am not qualified to comment
in detail. The bottom line is this is a great skate surface.
This rink is typical of family owned rinks throughout America. It is
clean, with the staff focused on the kids having a good time. They have
a skate shop, snack bar, game room, and plenty of party space. During
the weekdays, it is also a Daycare Center, with kids segregated by age.
Birthday parties are available by reservation, with private rooms for
each party.
No artistic program is available, but the floor provides plenty of room
for practice during the sessions. Tuesday night is hockey night.
Skates are available for purchase, with the staff knowledgeable about
various combinations and costs. They rent skates, quad, speed, and
in-lines. Instruction is available on Saturdays, with both beginner
and advanced classes.

The floor is coated particle board. It's in hideous shape, there are

This is a nice rink, with a smaller floor (70'x170?) and a "kid's rink" at
the back. The figure circles are worn away. There is an artistic teacher
or two here, but I'm not sure about an artistic club.

All Star has two floors. The main floor is uncoated wood, 182'x82'. It
is pretty smooth, but will seem slippery for anyone used to a plastic
coated floor. It is supposed to receive a platic coating over the July 4th
weekend. The floor is swept and monitored by rink staff and artistic club
skaters. The second floor is plastic coated, 25'x9', just large enough for
some figure circles. The main floor is slightly depressed from a carpeted
surround.
The skate shop has only a few items on hand but several catalogs to order
from. There is a full service snack bar with the usual pizza, hot dogs,
pretzels, and popcorn. NO SMOKING! There are a few games that are moving
soon to a separate game room.
There aren't any adult-only sessions per se but many times the weeknight
sessions are only adults. The music ranges from classical, rock, country,
and (when we can get away with it) artistic dance music. The only session
with musical restrictions is the Tuesday evening Christian music session.
There is artistic club practice time most evenings from 5:00 or 6:00 PM
to 7:00 PM and also Saturday Morning. There are also pickup roller hockey
games several evenings per week.
My only big frustration is getting through the parking lot once the bingo
parlor in the shopping center opens. The skating rink currently undergoing
some rennovation including re-coating the floor and remodeling the game
room.

interior of the rink was redone last year and is clean and pleasant.

This rink is huge, but badly run. It's mainly a free for all, with no
control on the people. Non-skaters running around on the floor in their
shoes and skaters dodging floor guards who don't seem to care about safety.

Located in Arlington, Texas, this new facility is as nice as any I have
seen. The public floor is wood and is of regulation hockey dimensions.
The light show adds to the fun, with the kids skating from spot to spot,
listening to music from their state of the art sound system.
The facility boasts some of the best game room equipment I have seen,
using the coupon method of redemption. You can also take a break in an
extra large eating area with Hamburgers and other sandwiches available
at the full grill.
An innovation not seen anywhere else is the private rink reserved
exclusively for parties. This is a great idea, if you have the room,
and they do, for extra large crowds, and for any group wishing not to
share their good times. This rink is smaller than the public rink, but
still large enough to have a good time.
Another good idea is the "privacy" area located on the second floor,
overlooking the public rink. This is good for any non-skating person,
who wants to keep up with their kids, but would rather read than listen
to the music.
Their specialty is Hockey, with many leagues and age groups. The coaching
I observed was attentive and positive. There is pick-up hockey for 16
and older on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

is on the side of the building, but there is no sign on the street.

Mustang Athletic Club, has just opened [Fall 1996]. It has an
indoor rink with a sport-court surface and and an outdoor covered
rink with a roll-on surface. Both have full dasher boards and are
only for roller hockey and indoor soccer.
Many players and coaches with experience on a national level have
moved there from Champions and The Woodlands to start up the new
league. In addition to in-line hockey, there are also indoor and
outdoor soccer leagues.

Austin along US 183. From Austin, take Rt 1 or I-35 north to
US 183, then head north on 183 towards Cedar Park until you come
to Anderson Mill Road. If you cross FM 620 - Road N, you've gone
too far. Turn right onto Anderson Mill, the rink sould be near
the intersection on the left.

Austin is located in central Texas. Playland is in the northern part
of Austin, about 7 miles from downtown Austin. From downtown, head
north on Rt 1 and get off at the Rt 183 - Research Boulevard exit, then
head southeast on Rt 183, across the MoPac railroad tracks and about a
half mile further to McCann drive. Turn right onto McCann and Playland
is about a block down, behind a Nissan auto dealership. Alternatively,
head north on I-35, and then northwest on Rt 183, across Burnet Road
to McCann Drive.

Playland is probably not one that you want to go to - I know I never want
to go back. It's a pink epoxy coated concrete floor, which *can* be a
real nice skating surface, but this one is used for Bingo about five
nites a week, and has these pot holes in the epoxy that go right into the
concrete....I was afraid I'd ruin my (then new) dance wheels. It's really
pretty seedy, and it's also ridiculously hard to find.

The biggest (best) rink in Austin is Playland. They are installing a
brand new floor AS WE SPEAK [note - this was several years ago].

I like PlayLand. They have adult nights on Tuesdays and Sundays. Two of
my coworkers -- one of whom is pretty good -- and I skate there pretty
regularly. There is a good group of regulars.

part of Austin, about 6 miles from downtown Austin, past Municipal
Airport. From downtown, head north on I-35 past Rt 183 to the Rundburg
Lane exit, then head west on Rundburg for about a half mile to Rt 275 -
Lamar Boulevard. Turn right on Lamar, and just after the HG Supermarket,
take the first left onto Rutland. The rink should be on the right,
just after Park Village drive.

Skateworld sounds like what you are looking for. The times I've been
there they've played top 40 music, but I believe they have *adult*
nites and Christian nites. The floor is wood, a little small, but set
up very much like the Skate 3 rink in Tyngsboro MA, though the floor
is a natural wood color and a whole lot smoother than Tyngsboro.
The crowd is generally not very big, and most of the times I've been
there the floor has also been reasonably clean, though at least once
that I was there I left after 40 minutes because it was so cruddy.
I've seen them have a "race" now and again between songs during certain
sessions, but I guess speed skating is more popular in Texas than artistic
dance skating.

room in South Texas. Little kids will enjoy the Kiddie Korral and its
