I'm new to inline and I just bought a pair of K2
velocity's. Does anyone have an opinion on the 72/76
mm design? I can go up to 80 mm in the rear and 76 mm
up front, will that hinder performance significantly as
I gain more experience? Should I just exchange the
skates for another pair and if yes which ones, any
suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Paul

I just got a pair too and on mine (which are size 11) I'm pretty certain
that 78mm will fit on the front for sure, and maybe even 80mm (my ruler
says yes but it's very close). On the back, it looks like 82mm will fit
easily. I know that K2's literature states that the max sizes are 76 and
80 but I actually measured them and also tried a 76mm wheel up front to
see how much clearance there was. Granted, the frame will probably flex
a bit when you're actually standing on the skates so I'll have to borrow
some 78 and 80mm wheels in order to be certain.

As for the 72/76 design, I'm guessing that a lot of it is marketing
driven - they needed a skate to fit in between the entry-level Ascent and
the more expensive Flight, but they also don't want to steal too many
sales from their top rec Flight. But this doesn't bother me because when
I do get better, I can always put 78mm wheels up front and 82mm in the
back. Anyways, give me a few days and I'll post my impressions of the
Velocity's (the weather's really crummy here right now.. grr).

I tried many skates (Ultrawheels, Rollerblade, Salomon) and the K2
Velocity fit my somewhat narrow feet the best by far. I looked at the Flights
but those were $70 Cdn more and in my case it wasn't worth spending the
extra money.

Gerald

Hi, I have been skating on mine for two months now and think they are a great
skate. They also fit my narrow feet very well and find them much more
con=mfortable that they flights. I don;t know if the two different size wheels
make a beg difference but I do seem to skate better in these than my RB Highway
7's. And also the additional support that the instep gives is great as once
the skates loosen up from skating, it takes just a pull on the strap and off y
ou go. No need to re lace the skate. I personally love them and think that if
you can put larger wheels on, it will just make thje skate better. I real
winner!!

After my first skate yesterday evening I have to agree. A great pair of blades.

Thanks for the advice Gerald. I tried out my skates yesterday for the first time
and they are truly awesome! Comfortable, fast, fantastic! I'm anxious to hear
the results of your trials. I also made some measurements and agree that the
78/82 mm combo will work, but let me know.

Paul
BTW, are you in the computer field Gerald (seeing you're at Waterloo)?

Hi Paul, I had a chance to try out my Velocity's last night as well.
Firstly, let me say this - it's going to be a while before I even think
about going to larger wheel sizes. These things are scary fast. I was
coasting faster than everyone else in my group and some of them had Salomon
FT-7's and one had a pair of K2 Flights. Then again, I was the only one
with brand-new skates so that might've had something to do with it.

And yes, they're extremely comfortable - when I first got them they were
pressing into my ankles a bit but now that they're broken-in, the fit is
perfect.

As for their maneuverability, I'll have to wait until my skills get
better before I judge this. I only fell twice yesterday and both times
were intentional (I was going too fast and I had to stop). I really have
to work on controlling my speed.

Yes, I am. Good guess. :) I'm a 4th year comp eng. What are you
studying?

Anyways, let me know how you make out with your skates. Oh, if you don't
mind me asking, how much did you pay for your Velocity's? Mine were $280
Cdn + tax.

Best regards,

Gerald
