I've been running searches on the web to find info on the music Paul and
Isabelle Duchesnay used in competitions in the late 1980s-early 90's(?).
The program was based on South American folk music and was some sort of
protest as well--Very intense, raw, emotional. Any information you can
offer would be greatly appreciated. Ultimately, I'm seeking two things:
specific enough info on the music to purchase a recording, and any
available video tapes of their performances of this routine which they
repeated in several competitions. Thanks for your help!!!

I know the music is by a group called Incantations, I think the CD is called
"Sounds of the Andes" perhaps? I'm not sure, someone probably knows. I
agree, the music was fantastic and suited the Duchesneys down to the ground,
they did two programs to it, one in 1990 and one in 1991 I think. T&D also
used some of the music before that.

I don't know that there are any videos you can buy with the Duchesneys on,
but you can get T&D's skating to a piece called "Dolencias", the dance is
called Missing, on "Torvill and Dean with the Russian Allstars" tour video,
which I think can be ordered online. It's a great dance.

No, it definitly wasn't that, although I belive the movie was an infuence in
Chris interest in the political problems in South America.

The music is by Incantations.

no offense, kate, but i have my tape of that world championships, and
that is what the announcer said - that it was the music from the movie
Missing.

perhaps Incantations recorded it?

i worked for the company that put together the information booklets
used by the on-air CBC people during the last 2 Olympics [summer and
winter] - and i have seen the mountains of information that comes from
every corner of the globe about all the performers. being a former
skater, i read through the skating book with great interest, and they do
list the music used for each stage of the competition. i don't doubt for a
minute that this same information is available for commentators at
world championships.

of course, if you really like, i could call the Duchesnays parents across
the river in Gatineau and ask them??? :)

I'm holding the tape in my hand ladies...

No, as Trudi pointed out, the music T&D and the D's skated to was not
from the movie "Missing" -- the idea for the choreography was INSPIRED by
the movie, but the Vangelis music was not used.

The music T&D used was called "Dolencias" and it was performanced by a
South American group called "Inti Illimani" The Duchesnay's performed
their Missing program to this same much PLUS another piece from this same
CD called "Secinades".

This CD is out of print, but you can find plenty of Inti Illimani
recordings in record stores and they just did a U.S. concert tour last
year. Great stuff.

THANKS for the help! I'm sorry to hear it's out of print, though. I'll
just have to do what I always do--look forever in CD stores with old or
slow-moving stock, used CD's, internet, etc.

At least I now have titles, artists, album info.

Thanks again, everyone.
