More thoughts on the SA short programs....

I was shocked at the difference in Fedor Andreev's skating between the
Boston Open and Skate America. At the Boston Open back in
mid-September, he didn't land any jumps, either, but at least he was
skating aggressively with incredible speed, and putting a lot of
energy into upper-body movement -- too much, I thought, since it gave
him the appearance of out-of-control arm thrashing. At SA, OTOH, he
appeared to be skating like a slug. Altitude? Trying deliberately to
tone down the wild arms? Feeling so disheartened by his jump
difficulties so that he stripped everything else out of the program?
I dunno.

Anyway, I'm inclined to agree with those who've been suggesting he ought
to take up pairs instead, except that I would worry about the safety of
any girl he skates with. :-(

Why? Because he flails? Because he doesn't look strong enough?

Because he flails, and doesn't seem to be quite under control in many
of his movements. This was much more apparent in his skate at the
Boston Open.
