One one of the P2P networks, someone is airing For Your Eyes
Only, and there is an argument, from the scene where Bond
is attacked with ice skates.

Contrary to what some people think, ice skates are hardly
something you could call a deadly weapon. The worst
you could get would be akin to a cut you would get from
shaving.

In the entire history of the ISU, there has never been
a figure skater seriously injured from a skate blade.
Contrary to what some people say in the chat room
associated with this P2P channel might think, there has
never been a serious blade-related injury in figure
skating in the entire history of Worlds, going back
to its start in 1896.

The only known injury of any kind was in
Australia's version of skating with the stars when
one guy cut his finger on a blade. But that is the
only known injury of any kind of a skate blade.

That was not me that posted that. The "Borked Pseudo
Mailer", is part of a one-way non-replyable anon
posting system. So don;t assume that eveyr post
from "Borked", or "George Orweell", or a handful
of others are me.

Notice the poster did not use X-No-Archive. If it
were me, I would be using X-No-Archive, to make
it harder for you, and others that like to chas me around
the Net, to find me.

"Borked" is what is known as a "cyberpunkk"
remailer. A type of one-way anonymous mailing
system. And that pseudonym is put in EVERY
piece of mail or news through that remailer,
REGARDLESS of WHO is using it.

The above post smacks of Chuckie but here goes. The statement was made
that ice skates could hurt you about as much as a nick shaving. I can
think of two nasty injuries right off the top of my head caused by skate
blades. The first one is the Russian pair skater, Elena Bereznaia. She
was doing side-by-side camel spins with her partner (the one prior to
Sikhuardlize). They got too close and his blade went right into her
skull. She was not expected to survive. Well, surprise, surprise - 2002
Olympic champion. The second injury I saw personally. Two skaters that
I knew collided at my old home rink, Sutro's in San Francisco. This was
sometime in '61 or '62. The girl in the collision was a competitive
figure skater named Julie, about 15 at the time. The guy was a speed
skater whose name I can't recall; it was a long time ago but I can
picture him in my mind's eye. Julie wound up on sitting on the ice with
the back of one calf sliced open from knee to ankle; those speed skate
blades did a number on her leg. It was a very bloody looking slash but
fortunately, no major blood vessels were opened. It was about the
ugliest skating injury I have ever seen. This ended Julie's competitive
skating career but it did not affect her walking and she was later able
to resume skating. I encountered her skating at Eastridge in San Jose
about 1975. Her skating appeared about the same. The bottom line is:
you CAN be seriously hurt by skate blades. Try taking a pair of ice
skates on a plane these days. When I used to do a lot of air travel,
some airlines insisted that I carry my skates aboard; they didn't want
to have to replace my skates, they were and still are high-end skates.
I remember once shredding a pair of my wife's tights while doing a
Ten-Fox or Willow ice dancing. My toe pick did the shredding but no
skin was broken; could have been messy. My blades then were Olympiads
with toepicks rather similar to today's Gold Seals.
