I don't know where to start, this post is so insulting. Both to our
intelligence and our sense of taste.
The only definition of 'slut' I've seen has to do with promiscuity. If
you've got any evidence on this, please, keep it to yourself. If not,
keep that to yourself as well. And do you *really* think anyone here
cares how ugly (in your opinion) Kristi is? If you want a list of
unattractive skaters, I can give you plenty.
The point is - we're here to talk about *skating*. That has nothing to
do with whether or not someone is a slut, or ugly, or even a
narrow-minded idiot.

I was just wondering what anyone's looks or behavior had to do with their
skating? The last time I looked, this newsgroup was about skating, not
some's qualifications for either the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue or
membership in the Christian Coalition.
It seems that at least one member of the Stamford community has descended
to the level of the 75 or so fans at last Saturday's Giants-Chargers game.
We can only hope that this post was written by someone as inebriated as
those fans obviously were.

these days are concentrating heavily on teaching how to solve all the ills
of the poor with donations & soup and scrambling to protect rodents around
the world (I am not suggesting they don't deserve attention) , but
obviously some parent or teacher somewhere has neglected to instruct this
person on the basic good behavior of "if you don't have anything nice to
say.....then don't say anything."
I used to remember our family watching olympic ice skating when I was
a little girl. My Father would make horrendous comments on "this one is
too heavy, or that one needs a nicer costume or that is awful music." When
all was said and done....you would think that the whole skating show had
been so bad and filled with ugly skater that you would never want to watch
again. But he always did. And it was never any fun watching with him!
Sure, I could make a mental critique of my opinions also.....but that is
where they were filed.
When I critique a person my rules are......#1 It should always be
something that they can change, ie. skill etc.
Never something like their face. That is how a person was intended to be.
Is the poster suggesting cosmetic surgery?
I really think the poster must be jealous and void of basic

I was going to ignore this post, since it's really below contempt, but
I am just so irritated that I have to add my 2 cents to what is bound
to be a significant response.
This is disgusting on at least two different levels:
1) Applying such a pejorative label to ANYONE on the basis of your
opinions re. the clothes they wear is amazingly shallow and immature.
Many young women who are blessed with the slender body required for
such clothing elect to wear miniskirts, etc., because it is fashionable
and they like to look good. Those who can't carry off such clothing
have no business criticising those who can. Your screen name doesn't
make your gender obvious, so it is a relatively safe bet that there's a
significant germ of envy behind this attack. [On the other hand, maybe
it's frustrated lust.]
2) There has never, to my knowledge, been any suggestion that Kristi
Yamaguchi has been witnessed _behaving_ like a slut, and this kind of
evidence would be the _only_ acceptible reason to call anyone such a
nasty name. All reports I've heard from those who frequent figure
skating competitions and events support the supposition that she is a
charming and well balanced young _lady_, who has done nothing to earn
your spite.
Incidentally, while you obviously feel very strongly re. your opinion
of Kristi's looks, such things are always subjective, and there are
certainly many who strongly disagree with you. I may not think Kristi
is the most beautiful of women, but I do think she is very nice
looking. You also have no business criticizing her for trying to make
the best of her looks. Jealousy again? Please go back into your cave
and mature for about 20 more years before you try again to converse
with civilized human beings. I'm sure Stanford would be _glad_ to give
you a leave of absense.

Agreed. I have been in touch with the "anonymous commentators", and you
will be seeing a comment about this from them in a few days. Some of THEM
are pretty disgusted by the original posts as well. We may be twits, but we
would never stoop that low. At least the original poster did not use the
anon service this time. The anti-Yamaguchi message that was posted through
anon.penet.fi in September 1994 is what caused me to eventually create
alt.skate.figure. It caused such a backlash against anon postings that I
had to create alt.skate.figure so we would have a place to go. Unless
Northwestern wants to have postings from their site no longer be welcome here,
they should do somethings about this idiot at nwu.edu, either that or
start carrying alt.skate.figure. If it can happen to Penet, it can happen
to Northwestern U as well. Unless Northwestern does something about this
idiot, postings from there will become unwelcome as well.
To me a slut is a basically naughty girl, which Ms. Yamaguchi is
certainly NOT. She has never done anything naughty to my knowledge and
therefore does not deserve to be called a slut. C'mon, think!! If she

About the Kristi thing, the person who did do that must really be crying
out for attention! About the other guy saying the way you spell Kristi
is "Cristi"....and the Mexican background, I have no idea what that

To my dismay and disbelief, they video-taped a
whole belavoring of themselves.
I likened the posting to these immature behavior.
The poster maliciously trashed Kristi without any substantiation
nor apparent reasons like those teens destroyed strangers' homes
without any reasons nor civility.
This is the worst day of this news group.
We went thought the saddest day quite recently when
we experienced a loss of Mr. Grinkov.
His posting was a grave act of contempt and
degradation to figure skate, an art of combining drama, aethetics,
creativity and atheleticism which Mr. Grinkov and
all of us here dearly treasure.
Alas, I am still fumed. Cussing didn't help either.

Nielsen suits the masculine, Gen-X's answer to the 30 something Yuppy.
For ladies, I find Jenni Meno and Natalia Mishkutienok to both possess

I agree. I think Nicole is absolutely adorable, and has such an
incredible presence on the ice. She gets my nod.
I don't think Witt is nearly as pretty as Nicole. Gordeeva is very
pretty too. Another is Josee Choiunard (forgive the spelling!) She's
a real cutie.
Again, Nicole is my pick, and she seems to be improving with age, both
in figure and general appearance.
P.S. On a separate subject, she also gets my nod for best legs. I don't
think anyone even comes close to her on this one. Anyone, please

I saw a skater named Steven Cousins on "Too Hot to Skate" over
the holiday weekend who was, IMO, gorgeous! However, his skating left a

Aha! So that's why you were so intrigued by the snowflake soloist....
She was very tall. I also thought she might be Lisa Marie Allen. Allen,
I think is one of the tallest world-class skaters of all time, close to
5'11" but always very smooth and graceful in all elements of her
skating. I would definitely put her up there on the list of best-looking
skaters.

I really haven't seen any skaters that I think are unatractive. Most are
in good shape and nice-looking. I also think that Aren Nielsen presents a

after reading the book "Inside Edge" I get the feeling that he and his
family are very homphobic. He really sounds like he has a problem with

No harm intended to Mexicans, but her name is Kristi, not Cristi, and she
is JAPANESE-AMERICAN. Alas, she does indeed have a caved-in profile and
