After Sand dumped her to skate with Jenni Meno, Kuchiki paired up with
Rocky Marval for a year, during one of his spats with Calla Urbanski,
and then in 1994 when Marval dumped her to go back to Urbanski, she
turned pro. She was last seen on TV with a minor role in Michelle
Kwan's "Mulan" special.

She's playing Frenchie in "Grease On Ice."
she is touring with grease.
Would she even have been 18 years old in 1994? Does anyone
know why she wouldn't have been able to find a new partner?
Thanks,
Edna.
Just a guess, but probably either personal choice or shortage of
qualified male pairs skaters. Same problem with dance. Plus in
pairs, the physical requirements are so great, I get the impression
that if you don't find someone you're physically compatible with,
it's pretty hard to maintain a top ranking.
But again, just a guess.

>and...didnt she have a sister that was a ice dancer too? any new about her??
Tamara teaches at the Los Angeles Figure Skating Club and has skaters going to
Nationals this year.
Is it my bad memory, or was she fairly big for a female pairs skater? That
might have been a disincentive to continue, or a disincentive for a male
skater to consider working with her.
First of all, she was/is large for a pairs
skater ( 5ft 3 and around 110 lbs or so, I
think). That made it very hard on Todd
(and his back) and with the limited pool
of US make pairs skaters, made it hard
for Natasha to find a partner strong
enough. She had the talent, but was not
blessed with a pairs physique. I
remember reading that after splitting
with Todd, she tryed-out with several
guys, but her parents thought that
none of them were strong enough for
her, and negged the potential
partnerships.
Also, Natasha's parents (especially her
mother) were very (too?) involved in
her skating, something that is said to
have caused a lot of friction in her
partnership with Todd. At her young
age, it was understandable that her
parents had (and should) a large role in
her life, but it was a problem when
skating with much older partners.
Looking back, IMHO, it was a bad idea in
the first place to pair a 26 year old guy
with a 12 year old girl. A guy that age
is independent and world-wise, while a
young girl is still heavily dependent on
her parents and still "innocent" in
many ways. The age difference (no
matter how mature the girl is
physically) places them at such
different "mental" levels that it would
be very hard to have a good connection
on the ice. You can "skate as one" if you
don't understand the other person well.
And the guy shouldn't have to be
dealing with his partner's parents as
well as his partner-it's just one more
distraction that takes away from on and
off ice training. It's fine when both
skaters are young, but with one 12 and
one much older, you are asking for
problems.

All the specific reasons Kate mentioned in a previous post about the reasons
for the Kuchiki/Sand split up sound logical.
But, for her difficulties in getting another partner, Stephanie Stiegler is
another example..male pair partners are always thin on the ground in the US.
Any female pairs skater who "loses" her partner for whatever reason(s) is at
serious risk of having trouble finding another.

I may have missed it, but.........
Has anyone mentioned Natasha's genes?
That she travelled, as a babe-in-arms, with Ice Capades? That her
father Sasha(i?) starred in the show. That her mom was a skater in IC?
(And, I believe Papa Sash was Japanese champ before his show days.)
If this has all been reported already in this thread, my apologies for
having repeated it.
Cheers.
Stephanie may appear larger on tv than she is in person. Stephanie and
John were standing directly in front of me at Skate the Nation in '98 and she
is very tiny.
