Why is Irina's husband never mentioned? All week on Eurosport, and the press I
read, I hear about Irina's and her mother's illnesses, but her husband is never
mentioned.

Are they still married? It just seems odd that with her problems he would not
be mentioned.

That occurred to me too. You get the impression that through this whole
crisis, it's been just "me and Mom." What happened to hubby? Don't tell me
he cut out when the going got rough? I sure hope not.

Yes, I was wondering, too, about Irina's husband. He wasn't mentioned at all
and it seemed to me that it was just Irina and her mother supporting each other
through all of these problems. Did the get divorced and somehow even the media
didn't find out?

I hope that Irina is happily married or happily unmarried. It is
confusing -- a few years ago, she was talking about retiring so that
she could have a baby. Then she went on tour, then came the various
illnesses, now she's back skating again? This kind of makes me guess
that the marriage went belly-up.

I, too, hope she's happy. But hasn't there been coverage in the past about
her husband's being under the radar and that's how they both like it? I
think they might have mentioned something if the marriage were over, about
that being another problem she was having to deal with.

Irina talked about her husband in a recent Russian interview (translated by a
kind Russian-speaking soul on another skating board). She mentioned that when
she was gaining weight and feeling desperately out of shape, he kept saying
"don't worry darling, we'll lose the weight" -- or something along those lines.

Now THAT's a sweet man.

Thanks for letting us know he's still around.

Yes, he is definitely a keeper. I had some serious surgery a while ago and had
to go on cortisone steroids for healing. It does put weight on you and makes
you feel very fatigued and bloated. My boyfriend at the time said the same
thing, now I am marrying him in December. Looking at her at Worlds, I
understood exactly how she felt and looked as I went through the same thing.
The steroids just completely screw up your whole body chemistry, your
weight, your timing, etc. I was so impressed with her to be able to perform at
the level she was skating, given her condition. She is now in my top two
faves! I have tremendous respect for her.
