The other darling of the 1998 Winter Olympics, Picabo Street fell in the final
women's downhill of the season today and broke her leg. It is the same leg
where she had suffered the knee injury last season.

I hope she will be okay. If anyone, she and the U.S. Women's Hockey Team
really did reflect the true spirit of the last Winter Olympics.

Geesh. What a bummer! Like she hasn't had enough physical trouble throughout
her career...! Was it Friday the 13th wherever she was at the time? (thinking
of time differences here) - just read the news, it was Switzerland, so yes it
was Friday the 13th. <shudder>

Peg, who wished Picabo could have attended the closing ceremonies in Nagano,
but she was back in the States by then... she might have made it to air unlike
several members of the American skating team

Since we are off-topic here, but it's a good one .......
Well, if you can nominate Americans for the "true spirit" of the Olympics, I
will suggest a couple of Canadians

Catriona LeMay Doan and Susan Auch.
Do you know what sport they were winners in?

I'm truly sorry for Picabo - what a horrible injury! I hope she will be
able to continue skiing competitively in the future (when she recovers).

Note: I said it was off-topic from the outset. If you inferred that I was
talking about Tara...well, what can I say? It is quite apparent that Tara is
all you can think about at best. But then, I anticipated this type of
objection from you.

Sorry. After I sent this, I should have specified U.S. candidates. ;> There
are a few Japanese (ski jumping and speedskating) and East European (in
aerials) candidates I could add in there, as well. But continue...

Speedskating, perhaps? There were a couple of Canadians there and in aerial
skiing I'd throw in the candidate pool as well.

Me, too. But I have this terrible feeling that this injury will finish her.
It is the second one on the same leg. :( What a loss! I love that young
woman's smile and rosy cheeks...to go with a fierce spirit.\ She makes me
smile everytime I see her.

Is there any reason whatsoever this is relevant to skating? Other than
one imagines, your veiled attempt to imply that Tara did NOT actually
reflect the true spirit of the Winter Olympics, as was widely claimed in
the news media.
