Skate Canada

I am planning to buy tickets and see Skate Canada in October, but I would
like to know who's participating in the competition first.

Does anybody in this ng have detail information on:

-the place where Skate Canada's held in Fall 1996?
-the list of skaters?
-the price of the tickets?
-when I can buy the tickets?

Will not be available until perhaps a month prior to the event.
The ISU will probably "seed" the top six skaters as they did last
year, and I think we found out those placings sometime last August
or September. The rest of the field will have to be invited,
confirmed, and so on.

This I don't know, but I believe last year all-event tickets were
in the area of $100 Canadian. Dave or Janet, do you remember? Not
sure if Kitchener would be more expensive than Saint John, NB.

Ticketmaster in Kitchener is probably a good bet, or if you can find
out the coliseum where the event would be held, call there to ask.

If the top five singles skater for the 1996 Worlds are seeded for the
Grand Prix like they were last season,( for instance, at the 1995 Skate
America, Todd Eldredge, #2 at the Words was seeded against Philippe
Candeloro, #3 at the Words), then this will be the seeded skater at this
year's Grand Prix Competitions:

1996 Skate America:

Ilia-Kulik - Rudy Galindo
Michelle Kwan - Irina Slutskaya

1996 Skate Canada:

Elvis Stojko - Alexei Urmanov
Maria Butyrskaya - Surya Bonaly

1996 Trophee de France:

Todd Eldredge - Rudy Galindo
Michelle Kwan - Chen Lu

1996 Nations Cup On Ice:

Elvis Stojko - Ilia Kulik
Maria Butyrskaya - Irina Slutskaya

1996 NHK:

Todd Eldredge - Alexei Urmanov
Chen Lu - Surya Bonaly

That's assuming they are following a pattern that will be repeated. It
could also be based on a random draw, which they will draw for again, or
its based on the seeded skaters availability or popularity in the host
country.

Skate Canada is being held in my lovely home town, Kitchener Ontario :-)

The event is being held at Kitchener Memorial Auditorium, ticket numbers are
1-800-265-6368 or 519-745-0303. They had no idea who was going to be there as
of three weeks ago. Sorry, but I don't have the ticket prices handy but they
are on sale now.

If anyone plans on coming down and would like any information about the city
(hotel information, how to get here, etc.) let me know.

The competitors for Skate Canada are not decided until after the summer.
The CFSA decides on who they send by the monitors reports from the three
major summer competitions. (Wild Rose, Edmonton/ Thornhill, Toronto/
Minto, Ottawa) They usualy tend to send Canada's big stars to draw the
crowds. The other nations may not do the same. This may change with the
new Grand Prix series.
