I couldn't help but wonder if someone sprayed everyone's skates with
Jumps-B-Gone before this one. Or was it something in the water? Everyone
ABC showed looked so tired and lethargic. Suddenly I got a feeling for how
quickly the season has really gone by. Hard to believe that it seems only
yesterday I was watching the Goodwill Games, and now the whole Grand Prix
series is over except for the final. I just hope the skaters aren't "too
pooped to pop" for the remainder of the season.

Wasn't this the competition where the LP *began* at 10PM? The final flight of
ladies must have begun around 10:45, with the last skater starting out at

have a lot of sympathy for skaters being asked to skate for competitions at
ridiculous hours.
Between not being able to watch practices and having competitions going 'till
all hours of the night, Lalique sounded like the best kind of competition to
miss.

Wait a sec there Trudi - this is gonna come as a shock to skaters who were
scheduled for NHK. ;-)

And just think, the US now has one more contender for that 3rd spot. Who knew?
For some reason, I always thought Viktoria Volchkova skated for Russia.

I enjoyed Sasha Cohen's performance despite the falls. I think I like hers best

Frame of reference is everything.
Ahhh...;-) thank goodness for NHK. I had a feeling I was forgetting something!

Was it? That certainly explains a lot. Sheesh!

If I'd gone, I would have been tempted to go back to the hotel and say to
someone "Bring a camcorder and tape it for me. I'm going to bed!"

OK .... I like Cohen's skating (despite my being able to see why it often
scores lower than many people think it should) ...... largely on the basis of
her attention to body detail and her truly exquisite in-air position that just
makes the jumps "twinkle."
Nevertheless, I would really like to see her seem to skate TO the music.
First, she doesn't waltz in her SP, and then she doesn't "Carmen" in her LP.
None of the music is subtle or formless ..... it's obvious music that LENDS
itself to skating. So it irks me to see that this young woman, who seems
otherwise to have a feel for presenting a performance, doesn't seem to hear the
music (or if she hears it, doesn't seem to be able to convey it)
..... all in good time, maybe.

I read an article stating that, due to the terrible plane crash that week in
Queens, Sarah's party had changed their departure from Monday to Tuesday
night. I kept waiting for Terry to point out that she might be jetlagged.
They also should have told the TV audience about such mitigating factors as
the late start time for the LP.
Instead, during the SP Terry told us for the 29th time that Vanessa G. was a
water-ski champ. ;-)

Um, she does. But maybe Janice knows that and was just a making a
joke I completely missed. In which case I welcome someone to explain.

Lifetime has a graphic giving the skaters name, and a little flag identifying
the country she is from. Imagine my surprise when Viktoria was identified with
the American flag.

Hey, if you think that's funny, how about the graphic at one of the
competitions where I believe it was Belbin & Agosto skating and they reran
the graphic and statistics for Bourne & Kraatz? Talk about the "dreaded
glitch award"...

Of the more understandable (?) glitches, ABC began rerunning MK's information
after Irina skated in the live coverage of the free programs from Vancouver
worlds last season. They cut to the scoreboard because their in-house graphics
were not "current". I suppose the graphics person got caught up in the event.
But that was live, not on tape... although I understand they just tape "live"
and go with that tape for the most part.

Dreaded glitch? I'm sure Belbin/Agosto would love to have those stats! :)
