Hello,

I just ordered skates mouted on a Reidell 130 swede boot. Based on my Dr.
Marten shoes, I wear Male UK size 9.

I made the mistake and I ordered *VIA THE NET* the skate boot US male size
9. I put the skates on, the boot is a VERY VERY sunug fit. In order to put
me feet in the boot, I have to unlace it completely. Skating with these
boot, with such a snug fit, gets very painful, the toes were a just bit
curved, enough to cause pressure on my toe's nail and cause pain...

I'll return the skates (by mail) and get another, bigger size. Based on the
above description, What size should I now get? Should I try for a US 10 or
US 11? does Reidell makes half sizes (ie 10.5?)

Ps. There are mouted on a Quad Roller skate plate for now. I'll also order
another pair of Reidell 130's mouted on a ICE blade, but I need to know what
size should I get. I really like these 130's... But is there any formula
based on feet's lengh, height to get Reidell's size?

Thanks for your suggestions.

I'd send e-mail to rie...@riedellskates.com and ask them for the best
match of your UK size. The Riedell sizes are a fair match of US Men's
shoe sizing, Ladies have to compensate by about 1-1/2 size. Trying them
on is the best measure.

Ridell offers some models of boots in 1/2 sizes, others are only available
in full sizes. Sounds like you're probably a full size off if they're
that hard to get into.

The 1xx series are Riedell's low-end boots, they're generally not stiff
enough for ice skating except at the beginner levels (and people will
argue that serious beginners will "outgrow them" before they were out.
Suede is a poor choice for ice, waxed leather does a much better job
of rejecting any slush or water that gets splashed on your boots...

Find a way to translate the UK size 9 to USA size.
Then, you should be in a Riedell boot about a
half size smaller .. I don't recommend going down
a full size unless you are a jumper and into a lot
of ice time. Even then, I did not go down a full
size, and I'm a lot happier with the fit of my
Riedell Goldstars.

I'd try e-mailing Reidell. Ask for their fax number and whether you might be
able to send a footprint tracing of your foot. They should be able to give you
the correct size based on your footprint. Good luck and happy skating.

Yep, and before you do that, go to
http://www.harlicks.com and see how to properly measure your feet for skates.

My US sized 8 1/2 shoes are labeled as UK 9 1/2. I have seen the 1 size
difference listed on other larger shoes and skates.

HOWEVER. I wouldn't buy shoes by mail order unless I knew how the company
shaped them.

Skates are even more erratic in how they fit than shoes. Every maker fits
differently and some even vary the fit between models.

If you don't have a way to try them on locally, I would strongly recommend
asking the skate vendor and/or Ridell for their suggestion (preferably based
on foot measurements or a tracing) and the ability to keep swapping until
you get the right size.

Sorry its wrong. I don't have it and no time to look. I originally found it
by typing "Harlicks" into a search engine.

George,

I was contemplating ordering a Riedell 297 dance boot. I have heard
that, since they use very soft leather, they stretch in quite a bit and that
I should order them a size smaller than my U.S. men's size 8 shoe size. Or
is that guideline just for women's sizes?

Do you have any experience with sizing that particular boot?

Why not look for a link to suppliers on Skateweb?

That is what I aim for. My boots fit like a second skin and require effort
to get on oand off.

Mine I have to unlace most of the way and can only get tem on if I'm
barefoot, or wearing very thin socks.

Mine were very painful for about the first ten hours, and then only painful
for the next ten. After 30 they felt fine.

Now that is a tad too short.

When you return them include a complete description of the probem and fit.
You might even included an aoutline drawing of your foot (made when you are
putting weight on the foot.

130s aren't a good choice for ice skating at all. They don't have
enough support. (Heck, I have a pair of outdoor quads with 130s, and
they are too soft for my taste, too.) Also, the suede doesn't work well
for ice skating -- remember, ice is wet.

As far as the formula, check with Riedell themselves. I believe they
have a website.

I've been skating in a pair of grey suede boots (custom SP Teri)
for 1 year and have had few maintenance problems. You can easily
purchase a suede brush. I mainly free skate.

If you decide to send Ridell a foot diagram remember to stand up
and have someone trace your foot and wear a thin sock.

Riedell is running at half down the size of you normal show. Based on you
description, a US Size 10 will do the trick.
