Hi, can anyone who has been to trophy lalique help me out with some
information? Is it very well attended? I just ordered tickets and got
2nd and 3rd row for Saturday. Friday tiks are free-seating, so I was
wondering how early should I go to ensure I don't get stuffed in a
corner behind a pole or something. I didn't order a ticket for the gala
- it's pricier than the competition itself! I figure once the list of
competitors is released, I can decide.

I'm also wondering about practice sessions - I hear that people have
received passes for Skate America, are Lalique sessions open to the
public? and how does one get to them?

>From the press release on the www.ticknet.fr website, the french
competitors (not official) are hoped to be: Thierry Cerez, Laurent
Tobel, Vanessa Gusmeroli, Latetia Hubert, Abitbol and Bernadais,
Anissina and Peizerat.

TIA

Where is the competition being held? I attended when it was at the
Bercy rink in Paris but that year it was professionals so it was treated
more like an exhibition by the public. Bercy was also the site of 89
Worlds, tickets were pricey and the ushers expected tips. Since most of
those attending were from North America they were having fits when they
didn't get a tip and actually came out and asked for one. The rink is
quite large and I don't think it will be a problem with crowds. A
friend went when it was in Albertville, Fall 91, and no one was there.
They bussed local school kids in to make it look like the public was
there for the TV cameras. Why buy a ticket when Eurosport shows the
whole thing. I can't answer about practices, but if in fact it is at
Bercy, call the adminstration office. They have people on staff who
have worked a number of skating events and could probably help you out.
Don't bother contating the French Federation, it's doubtful you will get
an answer.

ahh, I kinda assumed it's been in Bercy all the while, so I didn't mention
it/ But yes, it is in Paris-Bercy.
Prices were within reason for me - I've never seen a live skating event and
I'm determined to see one. I'm tired of not being able to really appreciate
footwork, speed, and *height* of jumps. And I want to see the non-star
skaters that I'd been fed on by the US networks. Bercy is so easy to get to
for me - just one metro transfer. All the skating events in the US (when I
lived there) involved train rides and way too many logistics. Besides, I
don't get cable here ...... :(

For those curious - 75fr (~US$15) for day one, free seating,
day 2 for both sessions I got the 195fr (~US$35) tiks - there are 2 other
prices, at I think 125 and 175fr, but free seating. The Gala is more
expensive, topping out at 230fr. Not my cuppa.
Can anyone tell me how much Skate America costs? I wonder if it's more
here.

thanks for the tip on contacting Bercy itself - bonne idée!

Those prices are pretty reasonable. In 1989 I bought 4 tickets for the
first night of worlds, opening ceremonies and pairs short and paid over
$100.USD!
This year Skate Canada, all-event with exhibition, best availible cost
me around $90.USD. Skate America has been steadily creeping up but well
over $100.USD.
Enjoy the competition.
