The judges really wanted kids who skated fast, and did a clean program,
they didn't go for little "cutsey" stuff, unlike other compitions.
I'm new to this figure skating jargon. However, I am dating one of those
who were at this competition. What is a Waxel?
... I am homer of Borg ... prepare to be ... ooo Donuts!
: I've posted the Senior Ladies results, but was not present...there were
: six skaters,Kathaleen Kelly Cutone(tall,blonde,known for spreadeagles),
: Patricia Mansfield(made ABC last year,should be familiar sight),Alicia
: Cavanaugh(just up from Novice to grab silver!),Melanie Lambert,Jennifer
: Blount(black hair,pale skin,at least last year she skated in wine-colored
: dresses),and one I forget...none ring a bell?
Rummaging in my files, here's the full list in order of their standing
after the short(in final standings,Mansfield dropped behind Cavanaugh
and Ward and Blount swapped places).
1 Patricia Mansfield, Colonial FSC
2 Kathaleen Cutone, The SC of Boston
3 Alicia Cavanaugh, Charter Oak FSC
4 Melanie Lambert, Colonial FSC
5 Jennifer Blount, The SC of Boston
6 Kristen Ward, Colonial FSC
...Ward is the one I forgot, and I guess if she's the one "Admiral" Todd
is dating,he'll let me have it...he wouldn't be dating the married KKC.
I have Mansfield,Cutone,and Blount on video from 1995 Easterns(Lambert
too,but only in pairs--though I wish I'd had the camera going when she
pulled out of Senior Ladies there in the middle of her long)...not sure
if there were any Waxels(or flutzes) to spot.

A Waxel,according to Sandra's Competitive Figure Skating FAQ,is
a failed axel attempt, when the skater slips off the forward
takeoff edge.
So if this was your girlfriend(or not),she was being given a rather
backhanded compliment...the Axel would have been a big one if she'd
done it properly,but it wasn't.
Anyhow,good luck...
