1.1 THIS FAQ

This document was established in March 1995 shortly after the creation of
the aus.sport.rugby-league newsgroup, to fill a perceived need for such
information to be available through Usenet on the game of rugby league,
and to provide some answers to some recurring questions that were already
starting to appear in a.s.r-l (that's aus.sport.rugby-league for short).

It is anticipated that it will be under construction for some time. While
it is still being established, it will be posted every one or two weeks.
Once a complete version is available, it will be posted monthly. A copy
will also be forwarded to the news.answers moderators for archiving and for
inclusion in the official list of Periodical Information Postings.

1.2 CHANGES SINCE THE LAST VERSION

Version 0.1 (1995/03/03) - First release, very much under construction.
Version 0.2 (1995/04/08) - More headings, a couple of questions included,
first reference to the Superleague
Version 0.3 (1995/06/05) - More additions (gee I didn't mean to leave it
so long!), club details and nickname alpha listing.

2.1 ABOUT AUS.SPORT.RUGBY-LEAGUE

The aus.sport.rugby-league newsgroup was created on or about 1 February
1995, following a brief discussion period initiated by Rick Eyre on 17
January 1995. The newsgroup is not so much a spin-off from aus.sport as it
is from rec.sport.rugby.

It was created as a need was recognised for a separate newsgroup devoted
specifically to rugby league. The rec.sport.rugby newsgroup accomodates
both rugby union and rugby league, however rugby union dominates the
newsgroup in terms of both volume of traffic and amount of interest.

Because of the lengthy discussion and voting procedures for the rec.*
hierarchy, it was decided that a newsgroup would be established in the
aus.* hierarchy, where no votes are required, and if it were successful,
then a proposal for an international rec.sport.rugby.league would be
attempted at a later date.
