Hmmmm. There's a poser: If the money was the other way around, what sort of
percentage increase in salary would Toulon players want to go and play at
Invercargill?

I would have thought they would gladly take a cut in pay in order to
live in the beautiful city of Invercargill (they prohibited alcohol
for 40 years and many of the streets are named after rivers in
Scotland you know). Not to mention playing a much higher level of
rugby than they could ever attain in Europe. Yes, I'm sure that to
play in the south of NZ would be a dream for anyone used to the
rigours of a Mediterranean climate in the south of France.

Not to mention that living in the cloudiest city in new Zealand you
would be far less likely to suffer melanomas than if you continued to
live in the sunniest city in France. Shit, play the right health card
and you'll have them flocking in!

Would the right health card be the one that sez that they've got almost
zero chance of contracting an STD in Invers?

I was thinking more of the lack of sunshine but hey why not? What
young man could resist?! Expect Invercargill to be providing ABs with
French sounding names for generations to come...

What a guy, 60 odd, still touring with the Stones, and turning out for the
first 15 on a Saturday.

Kind of rounds it off nicely given that Mick Jagger wrote the song
"paint it black" about the All Blacks while in Invercargill

Although Lord Shiney does not personally remember the prohibition
(perhaps UD could enlighten?), he is well acquainted with the various
forms of moonshine entrepreneurship (invariably beginning with the
Hokonui title) that were probably an outgrowth.

A nightmare, surely, for the average pom, given the infinitely higher
playing standards that would need to be attained.
