Just watched a replay... Sack the gardener!!! that is the worst surface I've
seen in years, almost unplayable. Got photosynthesis? Got sun?

Average game, mainly because of the surface... The scrums were a waste a
time and the rucks are out of control, I think they're getting worse. Bring
back the ELV!!

I think it was about 10 mins into the game and the commentators were saying
how shocking it was and that it was nothing of what it looked like. Maybe
good for golf practice (my wedge and sand shots)

It was shocking for such a good stadium.

Have to say though, the Welsh supporters are great. I took to my wife to the
last Lions match at Eden Park and by mistake we ended up right in the Lions
supporters mob ....... Us Kiwis could learn a thing or two about support.

I have said numerous times that the playing surface at the millenium
stadium is crap. Grass grows VERY well here in the UK (I cut mine again
yesterday, hopefully for the last time this year), however it doesn't do
so well in bowl like stadiums. I'm no groundsman but being grown on
movable pallets so the stadiums owner can maximise revenue staging
speedway and other events prob won't help.

I love the stadium itself, excellent location and great facilities, the
sliding roof really helps when the weather is poor but the pitch is sub
standard and always has been.

The welsh however will not hear a word said against the Millenium
Stadium, it's their pride and joy.

That's not true. The stadium's great but any Welshman will admit the
surface is often crap. Apparently there was a particular problem with
torrential rain last week:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_union/welsh/8349297.stm

"The Millennium Stadium pitch has often been criticised since the
arena opened in 1999 and stadium chiefs have invested heavily in
ensuring the playing surface has the latest technology to assist the
grass.

However, the pitch was exposed to a deluge of rain on Monday night as
a blown fuse prevented the stadium's roof closing and protecting the
temporary turf."

Riiiight. So a nasty downpour of nasty old rain about 5 days before
the game was the problem? 5 days!

No. There's always a basic problem, which they struggle to cope
with. Last week they had an additional problem. Apparently.

Yup. And I'll be there on Friday to watch the Samoa match, my

Update... It now appears that as well as the usual problem (removable
pitch, poor light and ventilation) and the additional problem in the
days before the AB game (roof stuck open during a downpour), there was
yet another problem:

"The Millennium Stadium pitch is to be replaced before next Saturday's
Test with Argentina as it is contaminated. Independent experts
examined the pitch in the week and found Bibionidae fly infestation
which causes damage to root growth and the surface grass coverage."
